We were disappointed that there was no internet as it was wrongly advertised as having wifi and we would not have booked it had we known. The property was spacious, comfortable, warm and had an absolutely fabulous view of the loch. The owners were both there to greet us when we arrived and were friendly. When the bathroom light bulb went they came the next day to fix it. It had most things we wanted although oven gloves would have been useful. The oven has hardly any temperature markings, but worked ok. However, in spite of instructions, we couldn't get the grill to work. The top rotor of the dishwasher was missing so it only cleaned things on the bottom rack. A welcome pack would have been nice as there is no shop in St Catherines, but washing up liquid was provided and each toilet had 1 toilet roll. It was lovely being able to stay there with our dog and we did some nice walks in the area, but do be aware the garden isn't enclosed. Overall we enjoyed our stay here.

The owner gave a lukewarm welcome on arrival, which pretty much sums this cottage up. He gives the impression he'd rather be somewhere else, and his heart isn't in it. The cottage itself is decent, large, well equipped comfy beds and a great shower. In line with other reviews it could have been cleaner. The area itself is beautiful, the nice view from the cottage is spoiled by the road noise....when it's dry it seems every motorbike in Scotland decides to drive by! Pub is advertised as being 2 miles away, it's over 3 miles which if you're walking is over 2 miles onto your round trip. If you need WiFi on your holiday then I'd book somewhere else, it apparently 'broke' unexpectedly but many people have had issues. The neighbours are very close and they too give the impression they resent you being there without being openly hostile. Overall the place is ok, could be better with a little more effort from the owner. If you don't mind the above issues, then I'd recommend it as the area is beautiful and the cottage is comfy and spacious.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. I gave these guests the same welcome that I have done for the past five years. I showed them how everything worked in the cottage. I told them about the local area. They said they were walkers so I told them about several walks and trails. They wanted to fish so I pointed out to them the pier where they could catch mackerel and the like. I explained about rubbish collection. I told them where to find logs and kindling on the property and am very disappointed to find that they thought all of this was this lukewarm. These guests were the first people to stay at the property in three weeks. I live 37 miles from the property and go there when guests are due and therefore I only found out that the wifi was out of order on the morning of their arrival. I contacted BT immediately but of course as it was a Friday and they were only staying for a weekend it was impossible to fix in time for their stay. I have had an engineer at the property since they left and he has advised me that the telegraph pole will need to be replaced. I contacted to advise this and asked that they put on the web page that broadband will be offline until the pole is in place. The road near the cottage is not a main arterial road. It is usually very quiet and is not often complained about. Perhaps they were just unlucky with motorbikes that weekend. I also advised them when they arrived that the nearest pub was 4 miles away not 2 and it is not a road you would walk anyway as it has no footpath or pavements running alongside it. I could not understand the comments regarding the neighbours. The nearest neighbours house is 60 yards away. There are only three of them. I have known them for over 15 years and they are the nicest of people and have said on numerous occasions that they like meeting the guests that stay at the property. The cottage is cleaned by me and my wife to the same standard every time (see the majority of reviews). Occasionally when we have 8 people out and 8 people in the five hours of turnaround time is not always enough in a cottage of this size but if you check the reviews it would appear, in the main, that we are doing a good job. However I take their points on board and will look at ways to improve the hospitality we provide. It is a shame that this guest did not speak to me at the time about their issues and I am sorry that on this occasion we did not meet the expectations of these guests. But we will learn from the points raised and address them.
