Guests at Frome are a short distance away from the Jurassic Coast and many other popular areas so there’s plenty to do!

"Set in glorious countryside... not far from the Jurassic Coast"

Lancombe Country Cottages are set in three acres of glorious Thomas Hardy country, in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in west Dorset, close to the famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast, including the Chesil Beach. The six holiday cottages converted from old barns are set around an attractive courtyard, now a communal lawned area, are all well finished and equipped and provide a relaxing retreat after a day out sightseeing.
All are named after local rivers, offer comfortable accommodation and can be booked individually or together, depending on party numbers. Unwind in the 3 acres of grounds, relax in the heated indoor swimming pool (open every day), perhaps enjoy a sauna, or on a fine day, chill out with a barbecue in a pleasant setting overlooking beautiful Dorset countryside.
Within easy driving distance visitors can explore the stunning Chesil Beach and Jurassic Coast, from Weymouth to the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, with its harbour and famous Cobb. Enjoy the many little seaside resorts, spectacular scenic coastal walks, fishing, swimming, fossil hunting and attractions such as Abbotsbury Swannery (where the swans may be fed) and Sub-Tropical Gardens, and Bennetts Water Gardens.
There are many historic houses and gardens to visit including Athelhampon House and Gardens, and Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park, as well as family attractions such as Bovington Tank Museum, Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, Monkey World at Wareham and the Sea Life Centre at Weymouth.
The bustling market and county town of Dorchester, 8 miles, with its 18th-century houses, shops, restaurants and market is worth a visit, as is Weymouth with its Georgian seafront, Blue Flag sandy beach and traditional seaside entertainment. Inland there is the famous Cerne Abbas Giant and the quaint historic abbey town of Sherborne. Enjoy golf, fishing, horse riding and go-karting locally. Convenience store on site. Shops and pubs 2 miles.

Open-plan beamed living/dining room and kitchen area with tiled floor. First floor: Double bedroom. Twin bedroom. Single bedroom. Small bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

I would not go back as having seen around the area I don't think there is enough there of interest to warrant a second visit.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review, however, I find this extremely disappointing and not a reflective review for potential future guests, on either this beautiful holiday destination, or the standard of the accommodation at Lancombe. Dorset is one of the top tourist destinations in the UK due to the vast and considerable amount of beauty spots, places of interest, attractions and beaches, many of which are on our doorstep. We provide comprehensive information on these days out on our website and in the welcome books in each accommodation and further information and recommendations are provided in our shop / reception area. I also recall you had two pets in your party, and whilst sometimes pet owners can find holidaying with pets restrictive, we offer very comprehensive information on the great number of places to go that accept pets, including dog friendly beaches. Whilst it is a shame your holiday at Lancombe did not meet with your expectations, I’m afraid it is difficult to see from your feedback how we could have improved your experience any further.

We have ABSOLUTELY fell in love with the place, the cottage was perfect, clean and so so quiet. All that you need is there, the facilities that are on site are all fabulous ie the sauna and pool are so relaxing after a great day out. The staff are so friendly, Caroline is great fun and can't do enough for you. We were lucky enough to be at the cottage during the super moon and eclipse the skies were so clear and there is no light pollution around so we got a really clear view. We loved the place so much before we had even left we have booked to come back again next year and are so looking forward to it. There is loads to do around including loads of National Trust venues, the world famous Monkey World, SeaLife centre in Weymouth is a fantastic day out for all. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

We stayed in Cerne cottage because Frome was unavailable. Owners very welcoming with some lovely personal touches such as milk in the fridge, cookies, dog treat - thank you. Those little things really make a difference. Wonderful facilities on site - pool was a big hit. Cottage was small , particularly downstairs space which was fine for our short stay but might have been a problem for a longstay. Consider adding an extractor in the kitchen. Every bit of cooking seemed to set the smoke detectors off!. Thanks for a great stay
