This cottage is a real mixed bag. There are some excellent elements, such as the very comfortable and clean bedrooms, Sky TV and wireless internet, modern kitchen and bathroom. The cottage is spacious and would easily accommodate a family of 4, and the views across to the Cheviots are stunning. However, some aspects of the accommodation fell short of the standard we expected for the price we paid. The sofa in the living area is worn out and very uncomfortable, and the large rug in the same room presents a major trip hazard. There were several other little issues, such as no matches or lighters for the open fire, no kitchen roll, no hand-wash in the kitchen, the frying pan was peeling and unusable, and we could not use the freezer as the drawers were frozen solid and in need of defrosting. There was also no information booklet for the property that we could find. Finally, the window in the master bedroom was not sealed properly leading to a noisy and drafty night when it was stormy outside. These are very minor gripes in isolation, but together they did lessen the enjoyment of our stay at Foulden Hill, although we still had a good time overall. To summarise, in our opinion you can find a higher class of accommodation in the Borders at a similar cost, yet with a bit more care and attention this property could be the best of them all!

Key in back door had snapped in the lock and we were unable to lock the back door for the duration of the stay. The front door lock jammed several times meaning we had to access the cottage by the back door. (imagine the problems if the back door lock was locked). For us, the biggest downside to the cottage was the bathroom / toilet was on the ground floor. The owners were friendly and helpful and we would recommend Foulden Hill Farm Cottage. The only reason we wouldn't return is because there are so many other places in the country to explore.
