Description

Only 5 minutes’ drive from Dover and its famous white cliffs, or bring your passport and sail across to France for the day.

Enjoy a relaxing holiday surrounded by countryside in these barn conversions which have been decorated and fitted to a very good standard. They are situated on the owners’ working arable farm, and guests are welcome to use the footpaths crossing the farmland. Take a few steps back in time to the year of 1193 AD when you view the abbey ruins, once bustling with French monks. During the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII had many stones removed from the abbey to build his fortifications at Deal and Walmer. Follow in the monks’ footsteps, (today a 20 minute car journey), and take a trip to Canterbury. Dover is 5 minutes’ drive, ideal for day trips to France or to visit its castle and admire the famous white cliffs. The properties are perfectly situated for walking and bird watching, with several good sandy beaches close by. Monks & Flint barns are adjoining. The Stables & Nell’s Barn are detached. Shop and pub 1½ miles.

All on ground floor. 2 steps up to living room with French door/dining room with wooden floor/kitchen with tiled floor. 2 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin with additional pull-out single (5ft 9in long). Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Low beams throughout.

Woodburner in living room included. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and high chair on request. Digital TV. DVD/CD and small library. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Sitting-out area and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (2 cars). No smoking. NB: Unfenced pond 50 yards.

Write up and pictures for this rental do not do it justice justice. It's even better than we expected and definitely worth the great reviews. Part of three/four holiday rental cottages that are converted barns and on the grounds of the ruins of an abbey in the country make this an ideal location to get away from the city and relax. Yet it is still very easy to get to sights and visit Dover, Canterbury, etc. For runners and bikers, great place to get out for a run on the streets (not heavily trafficked) in great rural settings with some hills. I would go back here if returning to Kent again.

Very pleasant stay and the weather was generally kind to us. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable, a good base from which to look around the area.

Superior holiday accommodation, spotlessly clean, well equipped and in a glorious location not far from the many sights and attractions of Dover and East Kent. Friendly and hospitable hosts. Would highly recommend.

The cottage was much better than we could have hoped for what we paid. The refurbishment was very well done and maintained. Being a little out of Dover was perfect as it was very quiet and relaxing. The owner put herself out to call and see how our holiday had been about half way through the week which proved she wanted our break to be the best she could make it. I would without any doubt recommend the cottages for anyone wanting a quiet relaxing holiday.
