Fir Trees was a lovely house to stay in over New Year - we were 6 adults and 1 infant. The house accommodated us all and the ensuite downstairs was very useful. We had a little trouble with the heating in that the house was cold when we arrived at 4pm. On contacting the housekeeper, we were told the owners control the heating over wifi. The heating did come on a little later, but the radiators were cold again by 8.30pm on what was a very cold, frosty night. A text to the housekeeper may have prompted the owners to put the heating on again, but no response was given. After this, the house was, on the whole, warm and cosy. We couldn't find any instructions for the oven, but managed to work this out (switch the switch on by the cooker - this will also get the gas burners to spark!). We also used the washing machine and dryer in the outside laundry. The kitchen was on the whole well equipped with plenty of cutlery and crockery, although we did take our own blender and slow cooker (and indeed, these were not provided). The upstairs bathroom is rather small, but obviously nothing can be done about this - it's a shame there is no room for a separate WC, although there is a very large vestibule. We were surprised that for a 4* rated property, there was no soap provided for the bathrooms (we had to go and buy our own), there was no kitchen roll for the kitchen and not enough toilet roll was provided. The location was lovely - just a short stroll down the road to the ferry, and about 10 minutes along a lakeside path to Bowness. Beware of inconsistent phone signal! We had to resort to texts! The provision of wifi was welcomed.

Lovely location. Short walk to the lake or ferry. Quiet and comfortable, and very secure for our 3 year old grandaughter who loved the garden as she could safely explore it on her own.

Loverly place to stay lots of rooom for our group to stay Kate the house keeper was a loverly lady and would do any thing for you the only thing I would say was that on the down stairs bedroom left hand side of bed there was quite a bit of damp showing and that one if the tv remotes did not really work that was the only 2 thing that I could think off Thanks Scott

We spent an enjoyable time at the cottage. The dishwasher was excellent. There were a number of small problems. The crows woke us up before 5am in the morning and we could not find a heating control or hairdryer or enough mugs. The shower upstairs had idiosyncrasies and went hot and cold depending on other uses of water in the cottage. We could not get the vacuum cleaner to work; some plastic mugs and a jug leaked; the grass in the garden was not cut.

We had a great holiday a couple of things about the cottage. The bathrooms are very compact, we did experience an issue which remained unresolved. The headboard in the main bedroom upstairs had come away from the wall,we reported this but the housekeeper did not come back to us about it and told us it was ok when they visited the property. As this was reported first thing the Saturday morning we felt we were being accused of something which was not our fault.Otherwise the lounge area and dining area are lovely and really comfortable. The beds are memoryfoam which are again comfortable. Apart from the issue we had the holiday was lovely.
