Welsh Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

Description

This beautiful spacious holiday property enjoys views over lakes and rolling countryside - just fantastic for a relaxing break.

Tan Y Dderwen (Under The Oak, ref OZV), Beudy Bach (Little Cowshed, ref OZW) and Gwel-Y-Llyn (Lake View, ref OZX) are beautiful conversions of traditional Welsh long barns whilst The Farmhouse, (ref OYV) is a bespoke, extremely spacious holiday property furnished to the highest of standards.
Located in a tranquil setting surrounded by rolling countryside, these wonderful family holiday properties boast character and all the comforts for the perfect countryside holiday.
Close to the borders of both mid and south Wales, the properties provide perfect accommodation ideally placed for exploring the dramatic Ceredigion coastline where bottlenose dolphins are often seen.
The picturesque fishing town of Aberaeron is only six miles away with shops and its large harbour encased by pastel-shaded Georgian houses. A short drive inland leads to the rural and traditional towns of Lampeter and Tregaron, where the Welsh language is mostly used by the locals. Tregaron feels almost untouched by the 21st century and is a bastion of the Welsh language and culture. The river running through the town centre leads to Cors Caron, a national nature reserve of peat bog which is one of the most impressive wildlife areas in Wales; home to rare marsh grasses, black adders, buzzards and even the occasional red kite. A perfect opportunity to discover the real Wales. Shops 3 miles, pub in village.

The Farmhouse (OYV), Tan Y Dderwen (OZV), Beudy Bach (OZW) and Gwel-Y-Llyn (OZX) can be booked together to accommodate larger groups or families holidaying together.

A great weeks family holiday, plenty of room for ten, warm, fantastic views, tennis court and lots of parking. Nice welcome pack of freshly baked bread, butter and jam. Very isolated holiday complex with intermittent wifi and mobile phone signal. Such a great house let down by lack of maintenance and cleaning. Very uncomfortable seating in sunny lounge.

Beautiful property and very clean, however the sofas in the back lounge were old and you had to keep taking them off and replace for comfort. The single beds were uncomfortable to sleep on possibly need new mattresses. The area and views were outstanding but nothing local to walk to ie shop pub (closed in the day). We had two young children and they were looking forward to playing in the onsite play area, but unfortunately it was so boggy with mud they couldn’t enjoy it. This would be a recommendation for the owners to focus on for future bookings with children. Local towns were about 20-30 min drive with very little around other than seaside trinket shops. Some lovely places to eat/drink. If your looking for a chilled out time not wanting to venture far then this area would be just right.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am very surprised at the comments which have been posted regarding this property. Firstly, the sofa in the back lounge are not old - although they may seem old this is because the sunlight/daylight has faded the leather which shines in through the large patio window. The sofa does have large seats and occasionally need to be plumped up when people lounge and lie on the sofas. The nearest town is Aberaeron which is 6 miles away and has a supermarket, boutique shops, pubs and fine restaurants. Due to the heavy rain which we have had over the winter months, I would say that any play area would be very wet, although we have tried to rectify this during the winter. We endeavour to give all visitors an enjoyable and pleasant visit.

The Farmhouse is spacious and perfectly located with wonderful views from the bigger of the two sitting rooms. The grounds are peaceful and well maintained. The deck and terrace are superb as is the furniture on the terrace. There was a superb barbecue as well. The quality of the fixtures and fittings is first class, with one or two exceptions - the sofas in the bigger sitting room are slippery leather and very deep from front to back - uncomfortable to sit in for long. In the other sitting room they're fine. Bedrooms were well appointed as were the bathrooms. Unfortunately, we were not told that there is no soap, shower gel, washing up liquid, cleaning materials or dishwasher tablets provided. Also there was only one roll of toilet paper in each bathroom. It would have been helpful to know this in advance, since other 5* houses we have stayed in have provided these things. Considering how much has been spent on the conversion, this is surprising. We didn't need seven televisions! But an adequate number of toilet rolls would have been appreciated and on our first night, there was no liquid with which to wash up. The owner had left some lovely loaves of bread with butter and jam for us, which was much appreciated. It is a beautiful house to stay in and we had a great week. Just remember to take everything you need with you.

A large comfortable property that had everything needed. Breakfast on the patio overlooking the valley . Plenty to do but the highlight of a great week was the train journey up to Devils Bridge. We definitely want to go again.
