A stunning position with excellent views of the nearby fells, an ideal base for walkers.

Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. Marsett itself has true rustic country charm as cattle and sheep can roam freely on the village green. Horse riding and fishing nearby. Shop, pub and restaurant 3½ miles.

We had a lovely weekend in the depths of Yorkshire. Beautiful location, yes remote but that's what we wanted. The cottage had everything you needed.

The cottage itself was fair enough, in a beautiful location. Well stocked with equipment, DVD’s and games. The bedrooms were nicely furnished, plenty of storage space and the showers were very efficient. Wifi was very good (note: the password is in lower case not upper case as written on the router). We did however have some niggles. 1. We were told by a neighbour that the owners were away. There was no mention of this anywhere, nor contact information for any caretaker had there been a problem. There was no mobile phone coverage for our networks EE and BT. So even if we had a contact number we couldn’t have made a call. 2. The heating appeared to be operated from the owner’s house, and as they were absent this was not available. There were however, two very good oil filled radiators which we used. 3. We have no knowledge of wood burning stoves so didn’t risk it, and even if we had there was only enough fuel for one day, the rest could be purchased from the owners who were away. 4. The lighting in the living room was very poor. We could only read by torchlight. Mind you playing Trivial Pursuits using a torch was a novel experience!! 5. The “garden” was made up of stones, gravel and concrete. Not very good for dogs to walk on, both of ours went lame walking on the large sharp stones.. 6. Also note dog owners with small dogs, there are some holes in the bottom of the hedge which dogs can get through. One of ours did, but as we never leave them out unattended we were soon able to retrieve him from the neighbouring property.

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your review. We have noted your comments. Although we do like to meet our cottage guests, please note that we both work and sometimes have holidays too so are not always available in person. We can always be contacted by telephone or email at all times, direct from the cottage through the super fast wifi. The cottage is remote so we do not have mobile signal, pubs, shops, etc the nearest being 3.5 miles away by car. Spare light bulbs are left in boxes under the sink and the Lounge one has now been replaced with the correct wattage one rather than the lower wattage ones for the 5 lamps in the cottage.

Cottage very well equipped and maintained. The area is beautiful with plenty of walks both easy and some testing. We found numerous really good eating pubs and a local farm shop with a lovely restraint. We would return to Fell Cottage. The owners Alison and Guy were perfect hosts.

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you for taking the time to review - yes, great walking country indeed - although wellies sometimes required - the Yorkshire Dales are green for a reason.

Response on behalf of the owner:- Pleased the four of you enjoyed your holiday and got out and enjoyed the area. We are remote but right in the middle of the National Park and only 15 mins from Hawes where there are lots of pubs, cafes and museums. The bin store was completed at the end of May.

Well presented cottage access needs improving which we believe is in hand. Not ideal for dogs as could not be let of the lead in any location locally due to sheep. Vey nice owners who always had time to talk.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you for taking the time to review. Access road completed. Our little hamlet has more sheep than people and in March there are lots of lambs so dogs must be kept on leads - extendable leads are available at the local pet shop in Hawes if you forget yours.
