The sea is just 50 yards from this charming cottage, which is set in historic Saltmills village.

Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this pretty, detached cottage is surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens a short distance from the water’s edge - an idyllic place where you can watch birds, fish or enjoy a picnic. Nearby, historic Saltmills village is aptly named after the renowned Iron Age salt mills and is home to Tintern Abbey, which was founded in 1200 and is well worth a visit. Light and spacious, Fardy’s Cottage is an excellent base from which to explore the Hook Peninsula, which offers a different beach each day for a fortnight, pretty fishing villages, bird watching, deep sea angling and snorkelling. Historic sites include Hook Lighthouse (winner of a ‘Lonely Planet’ award), Dunbrody Abbey, JFK Homestead and the restored Loftus Hall, reputed to be the most haunted house in Ireland! Beach 2 miles. Great value cottage with hospitable owners , Liz and Paddy. Owners were there to greet us on arrival after a very long trip to the cottage due to ferry issues. Everything you need in the cottage - excellent log burner. I would recommend the cottage again - the only issue we encountered was local attractions being closed in February and inot open till March but the booking was a last minute decision so I can’t grumble .

I'll stick to the cottage. Nothing major but worthy of note to winter visitors Lovely but a little damp and cold in the depths of winter. Could have done with a dehumidifier as no extractor fans in bathroom or ensuite so condensation rapidly built up. Windows had to remain closed due to driving rain/wind/cold air. Radiators positioned wrongly so not efficient in heating the rooms. This is a lovely cottage when the sun shines and you can let the fresh air in.

Once again, another fabulous holiday at Fardys. Lix and Paddy are so welcoming and everything you need is at hand. We love this cottage so much and always look forward to coming back. Can’t recommend highly enough. With the magical Hook on your doorstep it’s a fabulous place to holiday.

We received a warm welcome from Liz and Paddy and had a great holiday. The road was busier than we expected but the grounds are secure for children or pets.

We can highly recommend this cottage!!! We really felt like "staying at home" during our 2 weeks - holidays. The cottage is very clean, cosy and well equipped. Liz and Paddy are great hosts, very friendly and always there, if you need some help. The Peninsula is a great place for exploring the amazing beaches or the history of the Ancient East. We even made daytrips to Dublin, Cork and the Rock of Cashel. All in all we had a great time at Fardy´s Cottage and we would certainly come back!!! Thanks very much!!! :-) :-) :-)

Lovely cottage, central to all attractions that we wanted to visit. The cottage was well presented and had all the amenities anyone would require for an enjoyable holiday. We would certainly visit again.

We had a wonderful time at Fardy's Cottage. We were welcomed by the lovely, friendly owners, Liz and Paddy, who showed us round the cottage. They live next door, so are available if you need them, but we were fine and so they left us to ourselves during the holiday, and we saw them again on the last day to hand over the keys. (They did also very thoughtfully pop over to us to leave some candles when there was a blackout in the area, although we were out at the time.) They left a great little welcome pack of the basics, including milk, some tea bags, toilet rolls, a couple of dishwasher tablets and a delicious home-made apple pie (made by Liz). The cottage has everything you need and is presented to a very high standard indeed. It was spotlessly clean throughout, with nice furnishings, comfortable bedding and fluffy towels. Electricity and oil for the central heating is paid by meter reading at the end of your stay. We had been a bit nervous about this before the holiday, as we'd read reviews of other properties where people felt they'd been taken advantage of. However, we felt the price we paid on the last morning was very reasonable - 15 Euros for the week. There were three of us in our group and we each had an electric shower every day; we also used the oven several times, I used the hairdryer every day, and we put the heating on for a couple of hours per night on a few chillier evenings. The cottage is situated on the Hook Peninsula in Wexford. This was a new location for us, and we really loved it. There is plenty to see and do, all within very short driving times. There are also plenty of lovely sandy beaches nearby, which were virtually deserted when we were there at the end of May (although I understand they're busier in the peak season.) The quality of the food was very good in the local area and we had some very enjoyable meals out. The cottage really was a lovely place to use as a base for our week. The only way it could possibly be improved would be with the addition of a few more plates, bowls and more cutlery, which would enable you to make proper use of the dishwasher (otherwise you'd need to send it off after every meal only a quarter full). Many thanks to Liz and Paddy. We would definitely recommend Fardy's Cottage and would love to go back again in the future.
