Nestled at the end of a small terrace within the 300 acres of Gainslawhill Farm, this charming cottage offers a cosy, rural retreat. The accommodation benefits from being all on ground floor level and the wood burning stove in the lounge ensures a warm welcome awaits guests whatever the season. The kitchen has been newly refurbished and is very well equipped. To the front of the property is a spacious fully enclosed garden and over the road there are uninterrupted views across open farmland.
Far Point sits within a working (mainly arable) farm and is snuggled between the salmon rich River Tweed and Whiteadder where complimentary trout fishing is available on the latter. The elegant Georgian market town of Berwick upon Tweed is a mere 3 miles and offers many facilities including a cinema/ theatre, leisure centre with indoor swimming and an array of quaint tea rooms, shops and restaurants. A regular train service from Berwick takes only 40 minutes to reach the heart of the cultural city of Edinburgh, renowned for its festivals, arts and music venues, its superb castle and Medieval buildings and not forgetting the indulgent shopping experience along the royal Mile! Paxton House and Country Park is set in 80 acres of gardens, woodland and park-lands and is well worth a visit close by. The Scottish Border toon of Coldstream, with its wonderful woodlands walks at the Hirsel estate and prestigious golf course is only 13 miles.

    We had a fantastic time at Far Point despite pretty grey and wet weather throughout the week. The cottage was so spacious and yet still cosy. We spent most evenings in cooking meals in the well equipped kitchen and then relaxing after in front of the log burner with mulled wine in hand and a good film. During the day we went for long, blustery coastal walks and had a couple of day trips into Berwick exploring the town and the historic coastal walls. It was an ideal location for some spectacular walks and scenery. The only down side was that we found many of the rural pubs in the area were boarded up and closed so we struggled to get an afternoon holiday beer outside of the main town of Berwick Upon Tweed. A sign of the times really! That aside, I can highly recommend the area and the cottage. Perfect also for our crazy cocker spaniel Brandi who loved the freedom of the enclosed front garden.

    We had a fantastic holiday we couldn't of asked for a better base in Northumberland and the owners were brilliant. We will definitely stay again.

    Great cottage, managed to drive straight passed and ended up in Paxton. So if your going, leave the A1 to Paxton you'll cross a river at the top of the hill indicate right then turn right into the farm yard. Its the named house at the far end. Berwick is literally 5 minutes drive up the A1 and there are a couple of chip shops before you reach the town wall on castle street. The best beach for kids is Spittal with a small water park and beautiful big beach. Also free parking. If its raining spittal also has good leasure centre. Paxton house is nice with a small adventure playground, lovely walk and really nice food. Travel a little inland and there is the Blue Bell pub again good food.

    Had a great time and the cottage was really well equipped (except there was no hair dyer) also the mirrors on the walls were a bit too high. The location is perfect for touring the area and the cottage is really good value for money. I would certainly recommend it.

    Everything you would want from a holiday cottage. Perfect touring base and good walking area. Secure garden is ideal for dogs. Comfortable, quiet and warm. Easy stress free stay.

    Fabulous week in this beautiful cottage. Great location for visiting the Borders and Northumberland. Lovely and clean, excellent furnishings and plenty of room. We definitely will be back again!
