I would echo previous reviews especially with regard to the uncomfortable bed (the mattress topper is an old duvet), the sagging sofas which have been propped up with old cushions and blankets but with particular reference to the fact that guests cannot control the heating themselves and must ask the owners next door for heat so it took a few days to get it switched on. Guests are not permitted to use the woodburner in the living room so there is no comforting focal point to gather round on a wet day with a good book. Domestic supplies are minimal and there are no TVs or radios in the bedrooms or kitchen. There was no BBQ as advertised or welcome basket just a small sliced loaf, milk and some welsh cakes. We were cold and uncomfortable, in fact had backache, so came home early.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were dismayed to receive such a harsh review, particularly as the majority of our guests have been more than satisfied with their stay at Falcondale. Apart from the online reviews, we have had much praise and many positive comments left in our visitors book but unfortunately a lot of those particular guests do not then follow this up on their return home by posting their reviews on line. After a previous review, all beds now have mattress toppers in the form of duvets added. Duvets were used in place of conventional mattress toppers as they were found to be thicker and consequently give a softer feel to our standard / firm mattresses. We have found that the majority of our guests prefer a firm mattress. We had also bought new cushions to add extra comfort to the leather sofas and also added firm supports under the seat cushions for additional support. Although having been reassured by subsequent guests staying in September and October that the sofas are comfortable, we have decided to replace them with new 2 and 3 seater fabric sofas for the 2017 season. With regard to the heating, the thermostat control is located in the owner’s garage. On arrival every guest is asked what time settings would suit them the most. On this occasion, it was the end of the summer season and previous guests had not thought it necessary to have the heating on (hot water is available at all times). After having been requested to have the heating on at particular times, unfortunately we had some difficulty in setting the time switch which affected two days by coming on at incorrect times. We apologise for this and will ensure that this does not occur in the future. There are two items in the lounge which are not available for use – the piano and the log burner. Both of which have been left as features to the room. There are two large radiators which are more than adequate to make the room warm and cosy. The room has large patio doors with lovely views into the garden and Pleasant Valley beyond. The property is self-catering, however domestic supplies are provided to cover the duration of the stay. These are in the form of dishwasher tablets, washing machine capsules, kitchen paper, and food waste bags; recycle bags, general refuse bags, hand wash, shower gel and toilet rolls. In addition we provide teabags, sugar, coffee, milk, bread and Welsh cakes. With the exception of this review, all our guests have been very pleased to receive all these items. There is a barbecue which is stored in the garden shed for protection against the weather and is available when required. This was not requested during the stay. We will endeavour to ask all future guests if it is needed. It is a pity that all your misgivings were not mentioned during your stay as we would have been happy to have made your experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and try to rectify them. We always strive to give our guests a comfortable and relaxing stay and act accordingly to achieve and maintain this goal.

The occupants are living in the cottage with you!!!! It is one house with a blank door preventing you from accessing their half . It is one garden with a tiny fence dividing it into two. This is not made clear until arrival. It is a beautiful house and garden but there's a total lack of privacy because of this. You DO NOT have the cottage to yourself as expected!!! In addition, it is advertised as 500m from the beach. This implies that this is a walkable distance. It is not. There is a narrow twisty single lane with local traffic driving fast around blind bends. Again, although the beach is beautiful, I feel as though I was misled.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Falcondale is a large property which has been divided to offer 2 ground floor bedrooms and living accommodation for the holiday rental side, with the owners living in an attached annex on the side of the main property (similar to a semi-detached property). The holiday let has its own separate private front and rear access. There are two private 1st floor bedrooms and a bathroom above the holiday let but these are not used when guests are staying. The holiday let and owners sections are connected by two solid oak doors which have also been soundproofed to ensure there is no disturbance from either section. The same amount of privacy is offered similar to a semi-detached property. The ¾ acre gardens are divided into various landscaped areas; with the holiday let having two terraced patios with garden furniture and a lawned area which is surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, with gates leading to the owners’ private areas of the garden which are on the right and at the top of the garden. Great care has been taken to give our guests all the privacy they need to make their stay enjoyable, however it is necessary to carry out regular garden maintenance which is undertaken when the guests are out sightseeing. The property is 500m from the beach which is accessed by a narrow winding road which is regularly used during the summer months by pedestrians, vehicles and the occasional horse rider. Care must be taken as in most rural roads in Pembrokeshire there is no pavement for pedestrians. There is plenty of free car parking at the beach and shop.
