The Cottage was beautiful, we had a couple of chilly nights and wanted to put the woodburner on. However, the flu does not link with the woodburner, so rather dangerous. The wood burner itself was one of the oldest I have ever seen with no viewing pane, just iron doors. A few light bulbs were out, but lamps were in place and bright enough for the rooms. The Cottage was in the perfect location for walking and cycling straight into the New forest, with great trails on the doorstep. The garden was fabulous, owls hooting at night and woodpeckers during the day. Wonderful time and great cottage. Do not use the Brewers Faye in the village, was a horrible experience, they didnt have half of the food on the menu and the service was terrible.

Very happy with the cottage, comfy and warm and location, for us, was excellent. Only problem was the wifi strength, it would not connect with phone and all data was used up for the month in 10 days. Otherwise, excellent.

Lovely cottage, nice relaxing holiday home from home. The front part of the cottage was a lot older with low doorways and narrow stairs (mind your heads!) but the modern extension on the back housed a lovely kitchen/diner and bathroom. Well equipped and clean. The only thing I would say was that if you have young children to be aware that there is no landing upstairs, the bedrooms step straight out onto the stairs. Also the only toilet is downstairs at the far side of the cottage. Our kids are a bit older so wasn't a problem but we still left a light on at night just in case. There were keys on a hook in the kitchen but none of them seemed to fit the back door. A label would have been useful. Overall a lovely relaxing holiday.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your kind words about our home. Regarding the comments on the lack of landing upstairs, there is in fact an 800-900mm square landing outside of the upper bedroom doors. The staircase descends from that landing. To open a door directly onto a staircase would breach all sorts of legislation. However as you will recall this is an old cottage and the landing is perhaps smaller than you might find in a more modern house. A clarification with regard to the back door, there are in fact two back doors to the cottage. Both are from the kitchen, one from the side and the other directly rearward. They are within 3 metres of each other. One door is now kept locked as we have found, to our cost, that when both doors are open any breeze tends to slam the other door. Once even smashing the glass, showering it all over the kitchen! Locking one of those doors is the lesser of the evils I am afraid. We do hope that this clarifies and explains our reasoning.

Really lovely cottage in a beautiful location. It had everything we needed. The only issue we had was with our estate car on the driveway, it's a very tight space & was almost impossible to get our children strapped into car seats which made things a little tricky!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your observation. With reference to car parking, it must be borne in mind that the cottage dates from a time around 150-200 years before the very first cars! We are very lucky to have any car parking at all. I do accept that the parking area is quite small and further that the opening of car doors does often result in the doors brushing the hedges at either side, but that is as bad as it gets. I drive an Audi A6 estate and have no trouble. Further when the cottage was refurbished the builders got a Transit Tipper truck on the drive every day, so do please see that the parking space really is not that small. Some care is needed and if you do make a mess of your positioning, well it can be a tale to tell………….but isn’t this is all part of the holiday experience?

We had a lovely week staying here at this beautiful and well equipped cottage. It was clean, warm, plenty of hot water, and the beds were comfortable. A couple of minor issues which have been mentioned before. The shower is a little sensitive and the temperature fluctuates a bit but we are bath people so not so much of a problem for us. The driveway is on the narrow side and a bit awkward to manoeuvre a large car into as the lane is narrow and there are ditches either side. However, simple solution is to park in the cul-de-sac just opposite. We would definitely stay in the cottage again if visiting this area again.

Lovely cottage in quiet location. Generally well equipped. Lovely kitchen diner and cosy sitting room. Quaint upstairs- stairway warning is apt. Rubbish removal is more complicated than is usual with holiday cottages... Clean and nicely presented. Sofas coming to end of life .... Would go again

Evergreen is a lovely cottage and certainly deserves more than the 3 star grade given on the website. I have stayed in 4 star rated properties which are nowhere near as good. Although I stayed in mid January with it being below freezing outside the cottage was very warm and there were absolutely no draughts, this is thanks to the gas central heating which is rarely found in other holiday cottages (which more often than not rely on bottled gas, electric heating or the dreaded night storage heaters!) The other benefit to being on mains gas is that there is a gas hob in the large kitchen, another lovely change to the awful ceramic hobs usually found. The location is not isolated (which is good), being on the outskirts of Hordle in an upmarket semi-residential area on a quaint lane, it is a very quiet area indeed with about one car passing by on the lane outside every 30 minutes. At night it is extremely peaceful and all I ever heard were owls hooting outside - lovely. The neighbours barely seem to exist at all, nothing is heard or seen of them which suited me. Although there is a wifi internet connection this is strictly for simple web browsing only, do not expect to stream anything as the downloading speed maxed out at 0.6mbps. This is still better than nothing at all (which is what I experienced in my last three cottages) but hopefully the owners can upgrade this speed soon as sometimes it is nice to watch a film online in the evenings, however this is really such a minor trifling issue. There seems to be a newer, larger HDTV than that shown in the picture & I successfully plugged in a USB drive to watch downloaded films. Overall the cottage was super, with a powerful hot shower and probably the best equipped kitchen I have experienced (they even had a rolling pin!), the place was beautifully clean too. It was also a bonus that you could actually park in your own private driveway right next to the cottage, again this necessity can be surprisingly absent in other rentals. Best of all, you are not ‘adjacent to the owners house’ as 90% of rentals seem to be; you are in your own house in its own grounds with nobody interfering, snooping or getting in your way. If you want isolation you won’t be bothered!

Delightful, cosy cottage; oozes charm. We wanted something near to our daughter as we visit regularly, but were fed-up with hotels and the single room. This was perfect. Our autistic son and younger daughter thought it great. Friendly owner promptly resolves any problems, and a gardener maintains the garden. It is clean, comfortable and well equipped. We are most defiantly coming back; just hope dates are available. 😀

The cottage itself was nice, the location was fine, not very clean, there was not enough towels for 4 guests, we had no problem with working the shower it just did not have enough pressure so it was a bit pathetic. there was no dvd remote so we were unable to watch any of our dvds we had taken to watch in the evenings, and the place was a bit damp.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We were surprised to read your comments Robert. The cottage is cleaned to a very high standard top to bottom every week on a Saturday morning. The same cleaner has worked for us for a good number of years. We are very happy with her work and looking at the pretty high ‘Reevoo’ scores we get, so are the bulk of our guests. We leave two large freshly laundered towels per person per week, again we are surprised that this was not enough for you. We invite any of our guests to call me personally to help wherever possible during their stay. It is a shame that you did not call me, I may have been able to arrange for the housekeeper to bring some more towels to you. The shower has had previous comments on its slightly temperamental nature but never has anybody complained about its ‘pathetic’ lack of pressure? With regard to the dvd player remote control, it was taken by the guest immediately before you and of course unless I am told about this I am not to know. Fortunately there are buttons on the front of the player that operate the play, stop and eject functions. I suppose they are a little small and perhaps you did not see them? Again I could have helped you with this problem had you called me. As I mentioned below in reply to Beverly’s comments about the cottage being damp (who also gave us an uncharacteristic score of only 6) The cottage is very old and some of it is ‘Cobb’. Cobb is an old building material that relies on its being slightly damp to retain its structural stability. Maybe had you read the reviews, my feedback too, before being quite so critical you may have been a little more understanding of an old, beautiful and unique building that retains a wealth of character? Once again you could have called me at any point during your stay to discuss what you felt was not to your liking.
