National Trust Holiday Cottage

A restored, detached Victorian farmhouse in an outstanding location in central Snowdonia with stunning mountain views including the Snowdon Horseshoe and Moel Siabod. Dyffryn Mymbyr Farm House was built in the early 19th century as part of the Penrhyn Estate. It is located on a working farm and heated by an innovative and low carbon wood-pellet heating system. The house and farm are the setting of the iconic book I Bought a Mountain, a classic tale of life on an upland Welsh farm between the two world wars by Thomas Firbank. Another famous occupant, and the donor of the farm to the National Trust, was Esme Kirby, an environmental campaigner and founder of the watchdog group, Snowdonia Society. Close by is the mountain village of Capel Curig, a mecca for climbers and walkers, whilst the pretty village of Betws-y-Coed is nearby. In the other directions is Pen-y-Gwryd and the dramatic Llanberis Pass leading to the village of Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Two steps to entrance. Living room with wood-burning stove, large picture window overlooking Moel Siabad and tiled floor. Sitting room. Dining room with original oak panelling and wooden floor. Large farmhouse-style kitchen with breakfast area and tiled floor. First floor: Two double bedrooms, each with 5ft bed and wooden floor; one with mountain view, one with large picture windows. Two twin bedrooms, each with wooden floor. Two bathrooms, each with separate shower cubicle and toilet.
