Booked here for Christmas, 7 adults, 6 children, so accomodation fine, but only realised a week before that we had to pay £100 a week for heating (christmas, therefore winter and necessary), also £100 'security deposit', never had that before and pay extra for towel hire. Owner very friendly, but every time we asked for things eg cafetiere, pan scourer, surely basic items, the reply was that they used to supply them but people keep taking them away or breaking them. The worst thing was having no broom, only dustpan and brush, or vacuum cleaner. I was therefore rather taken aback to be told that £20 of my security was being witheld as they had to get on their hand and knees to scrub the kitchen floor after we had left. it was useful having 2 kitchens, so 2 hobs, ovens and fridges, however would be better to have only one washing machine, but a dryer as well. Very difficult to dry children's clothes on radiators. Overall the cottage was quite tired, every time someone sat on the settees feathers floated out of them, and some of the curtains were hanging off the rails, the hooks were only plastic, but the curtains quite heavy (you can now get metal hooks). Recycling system could be made clearer, realise that as it was Christmas no collection had been made, but was quite a trek to take everything, would be better to have separate bins outside each house. Beautiful area, shame the closest pub was closed down, and the children enjoyed the lake and the home made swing. All in all we enjoyed it, but It proves the saying 'you get what you pay for'

Response on behalf of the owner; I'm pleased that you had a good stay. Unfortunately we felt the property was left in an unreasonable condition as regards to its cleanliness,we had to shampoo the carpet in some areas and scrub the kitchen floors. As regards to the rubbish area it is away from the properties to make collection for lorries easier and keep any rubbish away from the properties,we do have weekly collections and we feel large unsightly containers outside the houses isn't practical and may cause a bad smell in the warmer months. It is only a minutes walk away. We do ask people to do there best with the recycling. All of our properties are stocked with basic gadgets as the more complicated and fancy gadgets were continuously broken and it now makes sense to keep things simple as we couldn't afford to keep replacing expensive item. As you know we have someone available 24 hours a day, should you have felt you needed a brush or anything you only have to ask.The properties are quite large and occasionally between a change over something may get missed, but again you only need to bring it to our attention and we will do our best to resolve any issues asap, by doing this it also improves future stays for other guests. The standard heating/electric charge was clearly stated with the agents that you booked with.

Lots of bees and flies are there in the kitchen and living rooms, there is no back doors or windows for air circulation, no dryer provided for after washed the cloths to dry, if it is raining struggled for get dry cloths , owner of the property is very nice person, friendly and helpful .

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. The property is not advertised with a tumble dryer. There are washing line facilities, the dryer was removed from the property many years ago as it was a possible fire hazard as unfortunately people didn't bother to clean the filters when it was used. So for people's safety we removed the dryer. Unfortunately, flies can appear around the property more than other times, this may be due to weather conditions when very warm and wet. We are in a valley and also near the lake and river. There are also fields with livestock on the neighbouring boundaries. To be honest its part and parcel of being in the countryside and it's probably very different from being in a town or city. Again wasps can appear anywhere and if we should locate a nest we do try to eradicate it as soon as possible. The property front faces the courtyard and has two front doors. The house is a small barn conversion and it is impossible for back doors as the property is partly below ground level on the back side. However there are plenty of windows in the property up and down. As for the particular week that you stayed, I remember it being very hot, wet, still and muggy, and again that's just one of those things none of us can control.

Stayed for one week. Great location for exploring Devon, both north and south Devon coast beaches not much more than an hour away. Half hour walk to Bampton for pubs, small supermarkets and chippy. Cottage was well equipped, shame there was no garden but the large paved area out the front more than adequate for BBQ's and games of cricket!
