Description

A perfect family base benefiting from two fishing lakes and a children’s play area within the grounds.

Lower Aylescott Cottages (refs 29396, 29490, 29491, 29607, 30032 and UKC162) are located just outside the village of West Down, in the stunning North Devon countryside. The cottages are ideal for couples and smaller parties during the quieter months and are well suited for families during the school holidays. The extensive well-maintained grounds benefit from two fishing lakes and a children’s play area. There are walks around the grounds as well as some local footpaths. Lower Aylescott Cottages are all well-equipped and furnished to a good standard. The nearby village has a pub and local shop. The properties are very well-located to explore all North Devon has to offer. The renowned beach at Woolacombe is a short distance away, as well as the famous surfing beach at Croyde. For something a bit more rugged, head out to Crow Point and the sand dunes of Braunton Burrows, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The nearest large town is the seaside resort of Ilfracombe. Enjoy an ice cream down at the harbour and see the Damian Hirst sculpture at the harbour entrance called Verity. There is also the Tunnels Beach and the Landmark Theatre, as well as a good range of shops and restaurants. Other local places of interest include Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Watermouth Castle and the Lynton to Lynmouth funicular railway, which all make for a good day out. Exmoor is a short distance away and on a clear day the views can be spectacular. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes, and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Great Torrington. On site fishing is available, no licence is required, however please bring your own rods. Shop and pub 1 mile.

The location was too remote i.e. too far from the main road on very narrow country lanes

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Lower Aylescott Cottages are located just 1.5 miles from the A361 (the continuation of the North Devon link road which joins the M5 motorway). We always advise our guests to follow the Cottages.com directions rather than their SatNav so they can reach us quickly and easily from the main road. We consider our location to be exceptional - beaches, supermarkets and restaurants within 10 minutes drive and yet the cottages are set in the peaceful countryside surrounded by 4.5 acres of beautiful scenery with two fishing lakes to enjoy. It is also lovely to have the village of West Down less than 1 mile away - a 3 minute drive or a 12 to 15 minute walk - so that guests can enjoy the village shop and local pub. The road to the village is a typical country lane with ample passing places and very little traffic. We accept that not all guests like country roads and are sorry you struggled with this. We are fortunate that our cottages are set in such a peaceful location yet not a great distance to the main road, but we understand that some guests may not like the 1 mile lane to the village of West Down as is not a main road. We would always therefore encourage potential guests to use the tools available on the cottages.com website to view our location so they can be confident in choosing the right holiday acccommodation for them prior to booking.

We really enjoyed our week's stay. The cottage was cosy & very homely. The extra touches on arrival were much appreciated, (milk & cake). The cottage had all the amenities you need, the dish washer was a luxury for us. We also Loved the log burner. We will be recommending these holiday cottages to friends & family & we will defininately book again. Malcolm & Lee, Tonbridge, Kent.

    Lack a homely feel

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; This review is extremely disappointing. Duror Cottage was awarded the Customer Choice Award for 2016 and has consistently received top marks on Reevoo, averaging 9.5 over the last 2 years. The photographs reflect the look and feel of the cottage showing the beautiful living space and there is a wood burner to further enhance the cosy cottage atmosphere. We endeavour to work with customers and take all feedback constructively to enhance the overall experience of our guests. However your limited review means we do not know what we could have done to meet your expectations. It is, however, heartening that other guests have been so happy with Duror Cottage. We hope future guests continue to enjoy this award winning cottage in the future.
