English Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Treat your loved one to this stylish cottage and admire the wildlife or snuggle up by the wood burner on an evening.

With wonderful views over Dartmoor and situated within South Devon countryside, this stunning complex of barn conversions (Refs HHHX and HHHW) was once part of the Stover Estate. Converted in early 2008 in a contemporary style and equipped to a high standard, with the addition of modern day comforts, they make the perfect place for couples, families and larger parties wishing to holiday together.
They offer wonderful all year round accommodation, with each cottage boasting its own patio area, with garden furniture and barbecue. Once a working farm and an old miniature railway site, Gorse Blossom Farm has some 40 acres, where guests can wander around at their leisure and which offers a haven for wildlife, including birds of prey, badgers and the lesser horseshoe bat, which has made its home here. The indoor games room just opposite the cottages will keep children and adults entertained as well as an all weather surface tennis court.
Being close to the A38 makes this the perfect place from which to explore South Devon, Torquay (with its sandy beaches, 12 miles), Plymouth, 25 miles (to see the Hoe, the Barbican, the National Marine Aquarium which is ideal for children and adults) and the Eden Project (approximately
1½ hours drive) is a fabulous day out. Crealy Adventure Park is 20 miles. Exeter has a magnificent cathedral and quay, whilst a boat trip can be taken up the river to two stunning pubs. There are many villages to explore and stop off for a Devon cream tea. Dartmoor is on the doorstep, with its stunning scenery and heather clad rocky tors and ponies, and is a walkers’ paradise at any time of year, with Becky Falls (rocks and waterfalls) 8 miles. Paignton not only has more sandy beaches, but also a famous zoo.
Visit the South Hams, taking in Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth. Go the other direction and take in the Jurassic Coast, or visit Beer, Branscombe and Seaton to take a ride on the Seaton Tramway. There is so much to see and do that visitors will have to keep coming back year after year to take it all in. Shop 500 yards, pub ½ mile.

The cottage is in a very good location to visit the moors and coastal towns. We enjoyed our short stay. Pity about the weather! The hot water in the kitchen should come with a health warning!

Good location, within easy reach of both Dartmoor and the south Devon coast. We were blessed with lovely weather throughout our week, without which perhaps we might have focussed a little more on some of the shortcomings. Some work is certainly needed on the drive, and within the cottage itself (except for the TV) most of the appliances seemed in need of renewal. Some more glasses and crockery would have been nice. On the upside however, the WiFi connection was a bonus! In summary, much as we enjoyed our week (aided considerably by the good weather), and felt it was a good base given the very rural setting but with quick and easy access to the main A38, we thought it was somewhat overpriced bearing in mind the very basic nature of what was provided for guests. We would be happy to stay there again in the future, but only after some upgrading has taken place, or else the pricing structure lowered. We have certainly had better value for money at most of the holiday cottages we have stayed in over the years.
