On the edge of North Yorkshire Moors National Park dating back to the 1800s these charming holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location with uninterrupted views of the open countryside in the beautiful, peaceful village of Brompton by Sawdon. The cottages were built before 1853 in the village that is the birthplace of aeronautics and where William Wordsworth got married. A short drive from the pretty village of Thornton le Dale and the ancient market town of Pickering where one can board the NYM steam train, sit back and relax as it chugs its way through the glorious Esk Valley into Goathland, Heartbeat’s very own village. The ancient sea port of Whitby famed for its connection with Captain James Cook and Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the elegant seaside town of Scarborough are just a short drive. Dalby Forest boasting cycle tracks, bridle paths, off roading and stunning barbecue and picnic areas easily accessed. With golf, fishing and horse riding locally there is something for all the family. Shops 300 yards, pub 2 miles, restaurant 1½ miles.

    We had a lovely short break. The cottage was perfect - spotlessly clean, comfortable and everything we needed thought of. The location was just what we wanted - rural and quiet but close to local amenities. Jackie, the owner, was very friendly and available if needed but never intrusive. We spent a day in Scarborough, and some time exploring the area around the cottage, all of which added to a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We would definitely return - and hope to take the grandchildren next time - plenty for them to see and do too.

    Really enjoyed our stay at dragon fly. Beautiful area. Close to several local towns and villages. Driving distance from York. Would stay again. Only downside for me as very tall lady was layout of shower over bath. But besides this cottage was lovely. Log burner real bonus. Owner had thought of everything. Very impressed!!

    We found this property to be bright and airy. The main bedroom, having three windows, gave extensive views over the surrounding countryside. It was spacious, comfortable, well equipped and clean. The owners were very friendly, helpful but unobtrusive. The welcome pack, which contained fresh eggs and homemade cake was much appreciated. We would like to return to this cottage.

    An all round lovely experience. A warm welcome, a brilliantly equipped cottage in an exceptionally pretty village. Clean and relaxing - just what we needed. Lovely outlook over the surrounding countryside. Any negatives? Only, and I hesitate to touch upon it, that the shower is not the best that we have encountered, but with so many good points, who cares!

    We had a wonderful welcome from the owner and she even provided us with a cake, tea milk, eggs etc. The cottage is very pretty and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. However, we did have problems with the taps in the bathroom, which the owner is getting the plumber to look at. We also found that the double bed had two separate mattresses which dipped in the middle, so took a bit of getting used to. Nonetheless, we had a lovely holiday and would happily go back again.

    Another great stay at West End Farm. Lovely clean and comfortable cottage with everything you could need right down to toys for the kids. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Great location for visiting the coast as well as York and many other attractions.
