Description

Idyllic location, and uninterrupted views from this charming cottage, with wood burner, market town of Pickering is close by.

On the edge of North Yorkshire Moors National Park dating back to the 1800s these charming holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location with uninterrupted views of the open countryside in the beautiful, peaceful village of Brompton by Sawdon. The cottages were built before 1853 in the village that is the birthplace of aeronautics and where William Wordsworth got married. A short drive from the pretty village of Thornton le Dale and the ancient market town of Pickering where one can board the North York Moors steam train, sit back and relax as it chugs its way through the glorious Esk Valley into Goathland, Heartbeat’s very own village. The ancient sea port of Whitby famed for its connection with Captain James Cook and Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the elegant seaside town of Scarborough are just a short drive. Dalby Forest boasting cycle tracks, bridle paths, off roading and stunning barbecue and picnic areas easily accessed. With golf, fishing and horse riding locally there is something for all the family. The local pub serves cask ales, local ciders and pub food. Children are also welcome. Shops and pub 300 yards, restaurant 1½ miles.

The owners gave us such a warm welcome with beautiful little touches like fresh eggs, cake, milk tea bags, juice for the kids, butter and fresh flowers. The kids loved the property, it was a home from home with all the amenities we needed. We loved the location, close to lovely rural villages and coastal towns, we cant fault it at all!

Idyllic and flowery, calm in a nice, rural sorrounding. With the butcher shop and the teahouse you have everything you need, not to forget the local pub with outstanding ales. The owner is very kind!

Lovely place comfortable and lots of utilities on the cottage and clean. Best to have a car as most places you need to drive. Had 2 children which had a great time as me and husband. The shower was a bit small.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dragon Fly cottage. It was an excellent location to take trips to the seaside as well as the surrounding moors. The cottage was comfortably furnished and adequately provided for all our needs. Upon arrival, we found a delicious homemade cake with butter, fresh milk and eggs, tea and sugar on the counter. We enjoyed waking up to the sounds of a farm including sheep, hens and roosters! There were also lovely places to walk close to the cottage and we enjoyed exploring the local area! The only small problem we had was trying to use the internet as the signal was very weak and most of the time wouldn't allow us to connect.. upon reflection we decided it was nice to have a break from online technology!! Overall, I would certainly recommend this cottage and happily return again myself!

We had a lovely short break. The cottage was perfect - spotlessly clean, comfortable and everything we needed thought of. The location was just what we wanted - rural and quiet but close to local amenities. Jackie, the owner, was very friendly and available if needed but never intrusive. We spent a day in Scarborough, and some time exploring the area around the cottage, all of which added to a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We would definitely return - and hope to take the grandchildren next time - plenty for them to see and do too.
