Description

Converted from a former farm building, ideal for visiting Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder Water, North Pennines and the Lake District.

These two delightful holiday homes have been imaginatively converted from barn buildings. Dove Cottage (ref 26289) stands detached, with its living area on the first floor to make the most of the wonderful views, whilst Swallow’s Rest (ref 27540) adjoins the owners’ home. Peacefully situated, and surrounded by farmland with walking and cycling from the door. They enjoy splendid views down the Allen Valley towards Weardale and north to the Cheviot Hills. Whilst the location may seem a little remote, only 1½ miles away, lies the busy village of Allendale, with shops, pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and electric bike hire - a pleasant walk or a 5-minute drive. This beautiful, unspoilt part of the North Pennines is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Hadrian’s Wall, Keilder Water, both the Northumberland and Lake District National Parks, and the glorious heritage coastline are a scenic drive away. Enjoy stargazing in the internationally acclaimed Dark Sky Park. Newcastle, Durham and Carlisle are within easy reach. The historic market towns of Hexham and Alston are nearby. Shops, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Ground Floor:
Bedroom 1: With double bed and single bed on request (for child or flexible sleeping arrangements), and en-suite with bath, shower attachment, toilet, low doors and ceilings.
First Floor:
Living/dining room: With wood burner, Freesat TV, DVD player, iPod dock and vaulted ceiling.
Kitchen: With electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, washer/dryer and beams.

Beautifully clean and well equipped, Dove Cottage was a lovely place to stay for a long weekend. We received a very warm welcome and the upside down layout of the cottage was perfect to make the most of the stunning views.

This is a beautiful cottage in a lovely area, with lots of local good walks, and only a short walk into the local town, which has several good shops. It's great to find somewhere that is open to having more than one dog and the hosts are incredibly hospitable and helpful.

Fabulous cottage, delightful views with walks direct from your doorstep and the perfect hosts. Great location to explore Hadrian's Wall from, just a short drive away. Everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay in the countryside fit for any season. There were little touches from the owners which made our stay a really enjoyable and memorable stay. The only minor issue thing to mention is that the water pressure for the shower was pretty weak, however this is an environmentally friendly cottage so it can be over looked. I wouldn't hesitate in staying again and me and my husband look forward to returning. Thank you.
