Description

Dove Cotes House is truly unique, with a fantastic interior including a roof terrace providing breathtaking views.

"A truly magical estate to escape to and unwind..."

High in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.
Set in 30 acres of parkland and woods, with grazing sheep, deer, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons. While the organic walled kitchen gardens grow some more unusual varieties of vegetables to the UK. You will find Romanesco, Cavelo Nero, and Pink Fir Apple potatoes to name a few, all complimentary subject to season and availability.
Originally the coach house and stables for the Manor, and named after the dove cotes in the gable which is adorned by a magnificent wisteria. This wonderful period property has a wealth of features, with vaulted ceilings, and galleried landings. Relax in the large lounge with its spectacular brick fireplace, wood burning stove, and door onto the terrace. The bespoke kitchen has range, marble worktops, Belfast sink, breakfast area, and limestone floor. While the dining room with wood burning stove and oak refectory table is ideal for social gatherings. Dove Cote House has 4 bedrooms, but you might want to make sure you get the master bedroom! With its mahogany bed, beamed vaulted ceiling, period furniture, and roof terrace with breathtaking views to Lundy Island. The en-suite bathroom with Victorian slipper bath, gives a touch of opulence to this delightful room. The three further bedrooms are en-suite, and have crisp, fresh linen and plump duvets.
No trip to Devon would be complete without a visit to the peaceful, unspoilt nature reserve of Lundy Island. Fishing and horse riding can be found within 5 miles. Shops and pubs 5 miles.

Dove Cote House exceeded my expectations. The building gives the feeling of entering into a national trust property! The warm welcome from the owners was noted, even before our arrival. The supply of milk, scones, tea, coffee, sugar and wine was great. The house was very clean and very spacious for all of the party including the dog. The tennis court and walled garden were enjoyed and added an extra dimension to the holiday. I have given it score of 9 for comfort and equipment due to the sofa's in the lounge. There was a very good array of large pans, but there was the absence of an oven tray/grill pan. I had only booked one week here but wished it had been 2! There is a supermarket about 10minutes drive and a lovely pub- The Hunters, where the food was very good with a smaller portion menu for the less hungry!
