Cosy little cottage with fantastic fireplace and good location close to the beach. It was clean and tidy and full of character and we really enjoyed it. Only down side was the oven didn’t heat up past 100 degrees so our Xmas dinnner was a disaster and ended up in th bin, disappointing as we had been assured it worked. Overall though Dolphin cotttage is good value for money.

This cottage was most.definitely overpriced considering the following points... On arrival to cottage no logs to start initial fire. Basic essentials like hand dispensing soaps not available. Oven could only heat up to 150 degrees after 40 mins. The maximum heat remained at 150 degrees. We had to eat out for our main meals which turned out to be rather expensive. Went to use the grill and found the grill rack had.been left unclean. A Pan left dirty in cupboard. Obviously we all have different standards, but, all this should be checked by housekeeper prior to anyone else visiting. Blue couch most uncomfortable. Poor lightning, making it impossible to read, especially with poor eyesight. Living room carpet needs a good shampoo! No facilities for dumping rubbish. We had to walk to the shore looking for bins. Beds comfortable and clean. toilets and shower were clean. We are a couple in our mid fifties with very high standards and expect the best for what we.paid for a week. it was not cheap! We'd have been cheaper going abroad for 2 weeks! Despite the beautiful and scienic location, its a idisgrace that dog owners allow their dogs to "DIRTY", wherever they are. I would not take children onto this beach. Overall very disappointing.for the amount of money we paid.

I felt the cottage was very "tired" and needed updating badly. The sofas were quite dirty and the bed was awful. My husband didn't sleep the whole week we were there. The bathroom light didn't work, the oven barely had any heat in it . We ended up buying convenience meals for microwaving due to the oven not working to capacity. 3 lights in the living room didn't work. I think it was very over priced for this standard. I have to say that most of the above problems I have mentioned have been mentioned more than once in the comments book as far back as 2015 therefore I would have expected the problems to have been corrected. The only thing the cottage had going for it was location, close to both the beach and the shops. By Friday morning my husband's back couldn't take the bed anymore and we left a day early.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We are very sorry to hear you are disappointed with your stay in our cottage. As it has become a very popular cottage, our caretaker is constantly replacing things like bulbs and firewood. Her work has been checked by cottages.com a number of times and she has always received glowing reports for her cleanliness and attention to detail, but we sincerely apologise if there was a mistake or an oversight. We do encourage our guests to let the caretaker know if there any issues which she can fix asap to make the stay more enjoyable. We value our guest's feedback very highly and we take on board the comments made in the book every week. Over the two years our holiday cottage has been let, we have fixed issues that have arisen. We always found the beds and the sofas to be fine but we understand that others might have greater needs and so we will review your comments in time for the summer season 2018. This was our family holiday cottage until recently and although we adhere to all safety and hygiene standards, it is cosy rather than smart, hence the 3* rating. The pricing is set by this rating and then by the amount of people who wish to book it.

The cottage is ideally situated for town and beach. The biggest drawback was the lack of dustbin facilities. Even when we tried to dispose of rubbish in the car park at the end of the road, the bins were full. The bottle recycling centre only took glass bottles, not plastic; we took those home with us. The attractive wall and side lights are not enough to allow reading or writing in the evenings. The cottage was very well equipped and cosy and we would like to return - with large rubbish bags!

We had a lovely holiday never been to Scotland before or booked through booking.com so was very pleasantly surprised. The only thing we found a problem was that the oven took a very long time to heat up and ages to cook anything but this was only a small thing as the rest of the accommodation was very comfortable and good value. Would certainly go back to Dolphin Cottage and Scotland again.

Stayed in Dolphin cottage for 4 nights would definitely go back had lots to do for my kids they had lots of fun the only thing I would say is that the stairs were very steep up to the bedrooms and the bins outside were very full and tricky to figure out and no internet connection but minor details really as we spent all of our time at the beach coming back to a lovely shower downstairs and bath upstairs which was fantastic
