Dolphin Cottage is the ideal touring spot with plenty to explore or simply relax on the balcony and admire the beautiful views.

Dolphin Cottage dates back to 1850 when it was a former trawler captain’s residence. Set in the historical fishing port of Brixham, the cottage sits high in a pretty colourful terrace where no cars can access but there is ample parking just behind. There is a patio terrace for al fresco dining and to watch stunning sunsets. It has the most fantastic uninterrupted views out to the bay and over the fishing harbour and marina. Torquay is to your left, and to your right is Berry Head, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 40 million years in the making. The harbour shops, restaurants and seafood kiosks are just a couple of minutes away. Why not try crabbing? Choose a spot, drop your line and take in the atmosphere of the fishing port. You can also take in the view of Brixham with its colourful houses cascading down on either side of the harbour. Fresh fish is available directly from the fishmarket. With 22 miles of spectacular coastline, water sports play a large part in the many leisure activities available within a few miles. For those preferring to stay on dry land, you will find some of the most beautiful coastal walks in the country to enjoy. The South West Coast Path National Trail has 630 miles of superb coastal walking. Take a ferry to Torquay with its bustling shops bistros, cafés and the coastal zoo, or a boat trip to maritime Dartmouth, where you can ride on the Dartmouth Steam Railway or leisurely cruise along the River Dart. Visit Agatha Christie’s Greenway house, Dartmoor with its tors and quaint villages. Fine golf courses are a short drive. Shop, pub and restaurant 250 yards.

We enjoyed our stay for a week in the cottage. The cottage had fantastic views over the sea/harbour and over Brixham. It has excellent sea views from the lounge and 2 bedrooms which is great. We loved eating breakfast on the patio every day watching the boats go in and out. The cottage is up a hill and a few steps but very central to the harbour with shops, pubs and restaurants. It is definitely in one of the best locations

Disappointed with the general cleanliness of the cottage.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for reviewing our cottage. Our cleaners work hard to keep the cottage to a high standard and previous reviews show this, I'm sorry that you felt that this was not the case our average score for cleanliness is 8.1 out of 10, we will take it up with our cleaning company, you have my contact details if you wish to forward any specific problems you noticed.

We stayed here as three adults and three children, the accommodation was excellent though some of the mattresses are probably passed their best. The view was amazing and we could have sat on the patio and watched boats coming in and out the harbour all day. The property was relatively well equipped, but there is no wi-fi which should be considered essential these days. For sleeping 6 a dishwasher would have been a useful inclusion if you're self catering. It's nice that there's a washing machine, but a washer dryer would have been preferred to speed up the drying process. There was also no hair dryer or fans provided. The stairs into the loft conversion are very steep, but this is well published in the description. Those minor niggles aside, we had a wonderful time and Brixham is a great setting off point for the whole Torbay area.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feed back. We agree, the views are amazing and we are pleased that you had a good stay. I am sorry that you felt that the mattresses were past their best, the main bedroom mattress was new in 2015 and we have a programme for others to be replaced in due course. All of the cottage equipment is listed on the website and I also advised that we do not supply a hairdryer or fans but we do take all requests on board and we now have WIFI as this has been mentioned by previous guests. Once again thanks for your review and comments.

We loved our stay at Dolphin cottage. The views are gorgeous and the house is comfortable and cosy. We have three young children so the steps up to the property were tricky when bringing our luggage to and from the car but it was a good work out!

We had a great time in this warm cottage with fab views over Brigham Harbour. We liked the location and we particularly enjoyed watching two seals playing in the harbour. The cottage was well equipped apart from not having a cafetiere or something to make fresh coffee in and having a very fiddly system to play DVD's

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for spending the time to review our cottage. We have since put in a cafetiere and also left instructions on how to use the TV and DVD player.

Absolutely wonderful views of Brixham harbour from the front of the cottage. The property was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The main centre of Brixham, with bars, restaurants and shops is only a few hundred yards away. So why wouldn't we go there again, and award it only 5 out of 10 for location. We could never find anywhere to park within 400 hundred yards, early in July. The nearest car park was down a very steep hill, and the walk back up to the cottage was exhausting. You'll best buy a weekly permit, as the "pay and display" charges soon mount up. We're in our late 60's and found it unpleasant having to attempt that climb several times a day. It is not a holiday for anyone with less than decent fitness levels, which other reviewers have mentioned, and frankly I don't think we would have relished another week there. One other point, was that the front patio area had not been weeded for some while and the various thistles and dandelions growing there, gave it an untidy look. Pity, because it would have taken only about 15 mins. to clear them. To sum up,I don't think the description emphasises the fact that the location of the cottage is really only for those who can manage the hill climb. However those that can, will find it very enjoyable.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments and apologies for the late reply. We appreciate the parking can be a bit tricky in the summer months and I do recommend in the information pack I provide that a permit can be purchased from the local council for days out or the local buses are cheap and frequent. Unfortunately without the steep hills we wouldn’t have the views. Regarding the weeds on the patio we did suffer a wet winter that encouraged the growth this has since been taken care of.
