Welsh Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Providing interesting features and views across the valley, this Welsh cottage lies close to wonderful attractions and amenities.

Originally built in the 17th century, these delightful holiday properties, one a barn (ref JDU) and one a cottage (ref JDV), have been carefully converted, combining their interesting features with comfort, and making good use of pretty cottage-style prints, soft furnishings and some antiques, in keeping with their period character. Each has its own entrance with sloping gardens, and both these charming holiday properties are tucked away from it all, offering peace, tranquillity and lovely south-facing views across the valley. This is magnificent walking and bird-watching country (many different species spotted in the garden). The nearby Clywedog Lake provides good fishing and sailing, whilst excellent mountain biking facilities can be found a little further afield at Machynlleth.
Five miles away is the pretty market town of Llanidloes with golf, tennis, bowls, swimming, leisure centre and the Red Kite Centre, which boasts live transmission from nests in the Hafren Forest. The town’s fine architecture includes the town hall, the market hall, built on timber stilts, and two imposing 19th-century chapels. There is a good selection of pubs and restaurants nearby.
The coast at Cardigan Bay is only 45 minutes by car, a spectacular journey through glorious scenery across the Plynlimon mountains to the university town and lively seaside resort of Aberystwyth with its cliff railways and various cultural and entertainment diversions, or further north along the Dovey estuary to Aberdovey. Here, the coast with its sandy beach offers opportunities for canoeing, windsurfing and swimming, and beautiful walks can be enjoyed amid the nearby Plas Penhelig Gardens. There are miles of sand and shingle beaches to enjoy, backed by dunes along the coast to Tywyn. The slipway at Aberdovey makes it a popular sailing centre, also good for surfing, water-skiing and fishing trips. Golf and horse riding are within 5 miles. Shops 1¼ miles, pub ¼ mile.

it was a very nice place in a fantastic landscape. The landlady was very kindly and welcloming. Unforgettable view onto the green meadowed hills, the peacefull sound of the sheep, as it seemed to be since centurys. A lovely place in a lovely country. Bernhard und Familie

Perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Amazing mix of old & new. Unfortunately it was as just a short stay as attending a local wedding. We hope to enjoy a longer break here next time.

The cottage is set in quite a remote area which is quite a wonderful way of escaping the world for a few days - especially on those cold and wet days in winter, sat by a real fire chatting with friends and /or family. The overall impression of the house both externally and internally is very good - though I have to admit, having experience of renovating old properties and renting them out , that I'd have done things differently from an architectural and interior design perspective. The fireplace for example is just utilitarian and functional and I didn't like the plastic mat/tablecloth covering the beautiful kitchen table (or the mdf cupboards). Having said this, from what I've seen of other properties, this is by far one of the better ones and a definite recommendation. Ruth, the owner, is a lovely woman who is very helpful and friendly.

The cottage was charming. We had the best time. The family loved every minute spent there. We found it suitable for all ages, as we had our grandchildren aged 1 and 4yrs ,our daughter and her partner both in their 20's. The views were breathtaking , it was absolute bliss. The owner Ruth was lovely, nothing was too much trouble. She was contactable if needed but left us to our total privacy. Would definitely stay again without a doubt.
