Scottish Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Cosy, detached cottage in secluded location with loch views from every room, cliff top walks and Cuillin Mountains easily reached.

With splendid views of the Trotternish Hills and Loch Greshornish, in the unspoilt north of Skye, this 5 star, detached stone cottage is a peaceful, secluded and comfortable retreat on one of the island’s most picturesque peninsulas. Décor and furnishings are to a very high standard and include the owner’s distinguished collection of Scottish paintings; the kitchen has local stoneware, cast-iron casseroles and an induction hob. Every room looks down to the Loch, where in summer the dawn breaks early and the moon throws a silver path across the water. Skye is the ramblers’ paradise where the Cuillin Mountains can be tackled by climbers or easy walks taken along cliffs and foreshore. The nearby Trotternish peninsula offers some unusual rock formations, where a combination of volcanic basalt and softer sandstone and limestone has caused spectacular landslips and sheer cliffs.
The island, renowned for its excellent seafood and wonderful restaurants, has something to suit everyone. Visit Dunvegan Castle, Neist Point Lighthouse and the old fishing village at Stein. The ‘Blackhouse’ Museum at Duntulm shows how islanders lived in thatched stone houses; the Aros Centre in Portree shows how the sea eagle has been reintroduced on Skye. Ferry trips can be made to the Outer Hebrides or a boat trip into the Cuillins. Tour the island by car or take an easy walk around the 4-acre garden and to the secret shores of Loch Diabaig or just walk out of the back door for 10 minutes for a glorious view of the Ascrib islands. The setting has it all, inviting relaxation and discovery with glimpses of the wildlife, birdlife and sealife. Shop 9 miles. Pubs and restaurants 4 miles.

We've been fortunate over the years to have stayed in many excellent places but the whole group agreed that this was the very best. Furnished and fitted to a very high standard throughout; generous spaces with a superb, large, very well equipped kitchen and dining room. Spotlessly clean. Very well insulated and warm. Excellent showers. Lovely bed linen. We arrived for New Year, a beautiful, fragrant Christmas tree was still in place. A complete delight to be able to spend time in a wonderful home. A beautiful collection of artwork on the walls and a superb library that made us all wish we could stay here for a year! Superb location, especially for exploring northern Skye in the short midwinter days. Ten stars isn't enough, hard to imagine how you could give it anything less!

Our stay here was a disappointment, unfortunately 2 of the showers weren't working, one of the radiators wasn't working, the downstairs bedroom window rattled and the dvd player didn't work ( this was replaced), I'm sure the owner will get over there initial discombobulation and remedy these problems. However the main disappointment for us was the house was not clean. From upswept floors to sticky worktops, a dirty toilet uncleaned windows and a smell in the bedroom. All that said this is a spacious house with great views and a fantastically equipped kitchen, just wish it had been clean!

We absolutely loved to Diubaig House. The house was very spacious with everything in it that you could possibly need. Some lovely walks nearby too and fantastic views.

Splendid. We were welcomed (with a personalised brochure by post from the owner a few weeks prior to our visit) to a wonderful home in a spectacular location. Walking distance through lovely trails to beach and cliff side views and wildlife. Driving distance to all of the other treasures (nature, food, quiet) that Skye has to offer (in abundance). I hate to leave such a glowing review - as others might read it - and the line to experience this place will grow longer! We can't wait to return!
