Description

This grade II listed property is simply full of character and is set in a peaceful village location with a lovely garden.

These attractive holiday properties lie in the peaceful conservation village of Colerne, surrounded by rolling countryside. The Grade II* listed stable conversion (PFFH) is part of the only longhouse in Wiltshire and dating back to the 13th century, is the oldest house in the village. Beautifully refurbished to offer all modern conveniences, yet retains charm and character. Sympathetically converted, the detached, single-storey barn (PHHF) offers light and airy, contemporary accommodation. Colerne has a good selection of shops and pubs but only a short bus journey, 7 miles, will take you into Bath and Chippenham. Within easy reach of Bristol, Bradford-on-Avon and the much-filmed villages of Lacock and Castle Combe. Great area for walking. Shop 200 yards, family pub and restaurant 10 yards.

Large, open-plan living/dining room with sofa bed, triple aspect windows and kitchen area. Shower room with double shower cubicle and toilet. Wooden stairs to first floor: Gallery double bedroom with additional single bed (for +1). Wooden floor and beams throughout.

What we didn't realise when we booked is that there is not one single internal door (apart from the toilet). This meant that there was no separation from noise etc when going to bed. The toilet is downstairs which unfortunately meant that my son who was trying to sleep downstairs was woken up every time either my husband or myself needed to go. Also, there is a notice at the bottom of the stairs saying - no dogs upstairs - however there is no door, not even a stair gate. Impossible to keep a dog who is used to going up and down stairs from doing exactly that when there is no barrier available to block the way. this made us have a panic attack every time the dogs moved! Also, what is not made clear is that the stable is right opposite the pub. Ordinarily, this would not be a problem, but with rather worried dogs who are not yet sure where they are - having all teh locals piling out at closing time and walking/driving [about 5 metres from the door] caused utter barking panic. We were told that we must be careful to clean up after the dogs (which we did) but there was loads of little dog poos all over the lawn, which I trod in without realising and had to go through the unpleasant business of scraping it off with a stick. the other people staying in the glass house had a huge Irish Wolfhound and they also remarked on the amount of poop on the grass (not belonging to their dog) - presumably coming from the puppy belonging to the owners. I knocked twice on the door of the owner, the first as their daughter had indicated that she would like to dog walk with us, and the second to enquire about a large stock-pot or large casserole dish (not one in the kitchen). The second time I knocked, the door to the boot-room was open, and very loudly came to an "Oh for God's Sake" from the owner. She was of course very nice when talking face to face, and delivered up a large casserole dish of her own - but the damage had already been done by then and I felt quite upset by it. Although I managed to have a hot shower on teh Saturday, both my husband and my son had to have cold/tepid showers as although they let it run for a long time it just wouldn't get hot. This happened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Walking in the surrounding fields for miles and miles was an absolute delight. The stable itself is beautiful and in a fantastic location but it really is not suitable for more than 'a couple' due to the disturbance caused to anyone trying to sleep downstairs.

Lovely cottage. Comfortable, spacious and well appointed. Owner has really thought about how to make a stay enjoyable. Lovely welcome pack too.

As a dog loving couple who booked a supposedly dog friendly cottage, it wasn't. When we arrived laminated signs everywhere saying dogs must not be left unattended. Cannot go in bedroom. Cannot go on furniture. All of this should have been stated clearly when booking. As it meant everything we had planned I. E national trust properties all no dogs allowed. Trip into bath shopping and Roman baths all not possible. So money wasted for us. Felt very deflated. Bed extremely soft although good quality no for anyone with a bad back. Very clean. We ended up coming home early as ran out of things to do with our very small Chihuahua. Also my husbands back couldn't cope with mattress any more.

A lovely place to stay, the owners were friendly and on hand for anything and the location was brilliant.the cottage was better than advertised and worth every pound spent, totally worth a stay. So relaxing and easy to get to places for days out. A great place to stay if u have dogs as there are some amazing walks in the valleys.

It was a lovely spacious cottage that had a lot of character. I liked the small touches of having milk, bread etc... already there. Wasn't expecting to have sopa, washing-up liquid etc, so again that was really good. Literally everything had been thought about. My only negatives were: - The kettle seems to have a leak - I think the sofa bed could be hoovered into the cracks

We had a wonderful time here at Daubneys with our two little dogs. The cottage and location were absolutely perfect and we were welcomed with little home made conforts when we arrived which was lovely. We would definitely return here and recommend to all our friends.

The cottage itself is well equipt and comfortable. The enclosed garden is not as expected, it is actually the grounds of the property with the only access the main vehicle gate. The cottage does not have its own private garden.
