Description

Brook Lodge is ideally located within acres of ancient woodland, all set within the Dartmoor National Park.

Located in the beautiful Dartmoor National Park

Situated within the Dartmoor National Park, set back from a beautiful, leafy stretch of the B3212 and a mile from Doccombe, these three, lodge-style properties (refs W43911, 28924 and 29495) are adjacent to the owners’ home and The Studio (ref 29495) is a small open plan property, ideal for short breaks. The holiday lodges lie in a lovely setting that offer a comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area. There are 10 acres of beautiful, ancient woodland, complete with a stream winding its way through the land, plus wildlife ponds, granite boulders and a 3-acre field, (which is ideal for exercising dogs) and pheasants that come knocking at the door to be fed. A rich variety of plants and woodland flowers offer an idyllic haven for the resident wildlife. This is a brilliant area for walking, relaxing and star gazing as there is no light pollution. Nearby, a golf club and horse riding over Dartmoor are available. Being in the midst of Dartmoor, there are many superb walks, reservoirs, heather-clad tors and Dartmoor ponies. There are many places of interest for the whole family. If you are a keen walker, the Teign Valley is well known for its delightful woodland footpaths. It is an area of outstanding beauty and in the springtime, the Dunsford woods are famous for beautiful natural daffodils and a little later, a carpet of bluebells. All three properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 7 guests. Exeter is only 10 miles. Beach 14 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Lovely cottage! Perfect for us and the dogs! Wifi wasn't working but started the morning we were due to leave! Bedrooms could do with mirrors! But we had a brilliant time and cottage is in a nice central position for day trips.

The cottage is rather shaded by mature trees due to its woodland setting but it was good to be able to walk the dog within the grounds, & footpaths were also very close, one virtually opposite the drive. The location was excellent for our purposes with a large number of attractions, including Exeter, within half an hour's drive. We found the equipment in the cottage of good standard & plentiful, although a steamer for vegetables is always useful & a glass chopping board is preferred for hygiene reasons. The home-made cake was very welcome for tea on arrival. Although the wide bed upstairs in the roof was comfortable to sleep in, the low ceiling made it difficult to walk upright around the room without bumping your head.

We had a great stay at Brook Lodge, it is a lovely quirky place with a fabulous setting amongst woods. The cottage was very comfortable and probably one of the best beds we've had. It is well situated close to Moreton Hampstead, which is very close to the moor itself and has a great walk along the river within 5 minutes, very useful for the dogs. We were greeted on arrival with a yummy chocolate cake and tea, which after a long drive from Kent was very welcome. The Ladies who own the property were friendly and nice. On the whole a lovely holiday, though the weather could have been a little better but that's Britain for you!!

Excellent and a lovely welcome too! Had a great stay. I'm a keen runner and I was healthily challenged by the many hills. The dogs loved the grounds and we had loads of local walks too. My husband and I relaxed and enjoyed having limited access to Facebook!!!!

Fantastic place to stay, quiet, peaceful and surrounded by nature. Great walks straight from the door, kingfishers can be seen at the steps bridge! The garden is magical and the owner is lovely. A fabulous welcome with fresh flowers and freshly baked cake :) The Wifi is not strong and patchy at best and there is no phone signal, so communication is very limited if not impossible. There are a number of amazing pubs close by which are welcoming and dog friendly, do great food and have wifi available The Bridford Inn and The Cleave at Lustliegh were notable. If you have a protective or territorial dog possibly not ideal as the gardens are all joined and brook lodge has no private garden. A small privately fenced garden wouldnt go a miss as were not able to open our patio doors and enjoy the sunshine. Although guests are asked to keep dogs on leads at all times, our neighbours were inclined to let their dogs wander uncontrolled which caused us issues when they visited our lounge windows several times, this included a resultant a visit to the out of hours vet in Bovey Tracey (who was brilliant!)

Lovely cottage with a beautiful location. Despite the rural location, only 15 minutes from Exeter.
