Walkers and cyclists will love this location, or for those who enjoy some retail shopping, the city of Durham is just 30 minutes’ away.

Hidden away in the stunning countryside of County Durham, Dandelion Cottage is the perfect place from which to explore this beautiful area. The location couldn’t be better for relaxing, unwinding and leaving the stresses of everyday life behind. This terraced holiday property, adjacent to the owner’s home, is ideally suited for families, friends, couples, walkers and cyclists alike. Lovingly renovated to a very good standard, it provides light and spacious accommodation. The large kitchen/dining room is well-equipped and the living room boasts a fabulous wood burner for those chilly winter evenings. There is plenty of outside space, where you can enjoy the countryside views.

There is an abundance of places to explore, with established public footpaths, cycle paths and nature reserves all within walking distance. For those looking to leave the car behind, the local pub is within walking distance, and there are a variety of supermarkets, shops and restaurants in Bishop Auckland, home to the fabulous Kynren Eleven Arches. The thriving, popular market town of Barnard Castle hosts a weekly farmers’ market, and has some super local pubs, restaurants, shops and historic buildings. Hamsterley Forest, a delightful 2000-hectare site of popular walking trails, cycle trails, orienteering and picnic spots, is just a 10-minute drive away. Witton Castle at Witton-le-Wear, 3 miles, offers fly fishing, a bird sanctuary, historic castle and beautiful grounds. Raby Castle is also within easy reach and is a must for guests who wish to catch a glimpse of over 200 deer which wander the grounds. Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the village of Staindrop is just 7½ miles away, and offers tea shops, cafés and a local family butcher. The cathedral city of Durham can be reached within a 30-minute drive, with its theatre, castle, cathedral, designer boutiques and shops, as well as many annual events such as the Lumiere Light Festival, book week, arts week and the Durham Brass Festival. For those with friends and family based at Durham University, or for those attending graduation and taster weeks, the main campuses are just 15 miles away. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Dandelion Cottage is situated only a short drive away from Bishop Auckland which will play host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches Spectacular from July to September 2017.

Kynren - an epic tale of England, is set to be a historical extravaganza with a cast of over 1000 people and set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. Great place to go and relax away from real life. Cottage is remote but anything you need is a short drive away. The owners were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. WiFi and phone reception arnt the best but we quite enjoyed putting our phones down for a weekend.

Fabulous cottage with plenty of space for six guests. Just off the beaten track so it's quiet, peaceful and relaxing, yet only 15 mins drive to the shops. The owners are so kind and friendly. Plenty of great restaurants round about from Michelin Stars to cosy country pubs and cafes. An excellent base from which to explore Northumberland, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Truely pet friendly. We would certainly return.

Newly refurbished property (we were only the 3rd visitors) which has been very thoughtfully developed. Kitchen is well equipped, sitting room is comfortable with a good selection of books, dvd's and a few games. Owners are onsite and very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Plenty of outside space to enjoy including a small fenced in area where younger children can play safely. Rural location, quiet and lovely views from the house.

We loved this cottage! We brought our three children, all over 9, who were thrilled to be able to go off exploring the land and brook and feeding the horses in neighbouring field. If you have little ones there is a private garden that is securely fenced in. There are free roaming chickens so dogs would have to be on leads in immediate area but there are plenty of places to walk them. Although the pub is reasonably close (we didn't actually visit), you will have to take a short drive for shops - not that that was a problem for us. There are so many places to visit, especially Beamish museum where we spent two days. We also went Alpaca Trekking - I'm not joking it was brilliant! The owners were friendly and helpful and right next door. The cottage is brand new and has been beautifully renovated. The fire in the lounge was cosy but the heating was more than adequate on it's own. I can't think of anything that was missing except maybe a dressing table in the main bedroom. I thoroughly recommend this cottage and we may very well be returning in the future.
