This delightful cottage has a large bathroom with elegant roll top bath and separate shower cubicle, a stylish double bedroom with large fluffy white towels and dressing gowns provided, and a cosy single bedroom just perfect for a child, teenager or grandma! The property has been stylishly furnished and would be a super ‘get away pad’ for people looking for a rural, quiet spot to relax after exploring the many wonderful places Cornwall has to offer. Outside, the large rear lawn is perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying the peace and quiet of the country, and there’s also a secluded cobbled courtyard leading off from the large utility/boot room. Country pursuits such as duck flighting, deer stalking and salmon fishing are available, and taster sessions can be booked directly with the owner.
To the north-west, Padstow is home to an array of shops, pubs, restaurants and a popular cycle trail, and fans of Doc Martin will be drawn to Port Isaac, which is where the TV series was filmed. The villages of Rock and Polzeath are also well worth a visit, and further down the coast is Newquay, with its fantastic beaches and surfing opportunities. An afternoon spent exploring Cardinham Woods is a must for cyclists, Bodmin Moor offers some fantastic walking terrain, and the National Trust property Lanhydrock House is just a short drive away. Two adults and their much loved Jack Russell had a lovely, peaceful break in Damson Cottage. This is a delightful home from home, out of the way of the hussle and bustle. The outside space is divided into 2 really, a level courtyard and a lawn up a few fairly steep ish steps. There's a gate into the farm from the lawn so you need to keep your eyes open...it could be an exciting escape route for a small dog! The cottage is on a working farm so be prepared for that. There will be smells and noises from cows and tractors but you are really in the countryside. The stone walls of the cottage are very deep which made it cozy when we stayed and would keep it cool in the heat of the summer I would imagine. Damson is about 4 miles from Wadebridge and reached by some windy, sometimes single track lanes. You will need to reverse if you come face to face with a tractor! Decorated and furnished with a tasteful mix of the modern and old, we will definitely be back to Damson Cottage.

Really enjoyed our stay at Damson, the cottage was beautiful and well equipped. Was in a decent location to explore north Cornwall coast and enjoyed walks along beaches and in the local area. Host was friendly and welcoming. We loved the bathroom especially the bath! However, we were disappointed with some areas of cleanliness; the cushions and blankets on the sofa were covered with dog hairs which aggravated allergies and the main bedroom had some mould which filled the room with a nasty damp smell with door closed. Apart from this no other complaints. We enjoyed our break. :)

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. I am so pleased to see that you enjoyed your break and stay at Damson Cottage. I'm really sorry that you found some issues around the cleanliness in the cottage, I personally do all of the changeovers myself and am very disappointed, as this is an area that I have always scored extremely highly on in previous reviews. You are the first guests to stay since October that have brought your dogs along with you, and the cottage has been cleaned multiple times since then. However, it is for this reason, and for guests such as yourself who may suffer from allergies to the dog hair, that I do politely ask people on check in not to allow their pets onto the soft furnishings, if at all possible, and to keep them in the boot room which has slate flooring and underfloor heating when wet and mucky from country pursuits. The cottage is incredibly old, dating back to the 1800s. As always with older properties, when staying, care does need to be taken to ensure that the house is kept well ventilated, and internal doors are kept open when possible to allow the house to remain well aired. Unfortunately if the house is shut up with windows left closed, and particularly if wet clothes are left to dry at the same time, the property will quickly become damp, easily within one week. I would like to reassure you that this would be the case with all character cottages of this age. We really appreciate your feedback, and will of course take your comments on board in order to continue providing excellent quality accommodation and high customer satisfaction for our guests. Once again, sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and if you are ever in Cornwall again, we would be happy to see both of you, your bump and your two dogs again.

Lovely cottage but a bit remote. Few possibilities to let the dog out.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for the great review. It’s fantastic that you enjoyed the cottage. I am sorry to hear that you found it a little remote, we really are so centrally based for exploring all of Cornwall and I am always happy to help with advice on things to do locally. I am also sad to see that you found there were not many places you could let the dog out; lots of people enjoy using the large rear garden to let their dogs wonder. There are also lots of lovely country footpaths that can be accessed by foot easily from the cottage and some of these are listed in the welcome folder. Nothing is ever too much trouble and we would love to see you again so if you choose to have another break with us, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you would like any help or tips.

A lovely, cosy cottage in a very rural and quiet setting. The cottage was immaculate and set in a small courtyard. But this was in no way obtrusive. Moysie our dog loved the garden areas. Kate the owner provides everything you could need and is so friendly and welcoming. Even if the cottage is tucked away down narrow roads , the North and South coast are so easily accessible. The small town of Wadebridge has 2 supermarkets and is only a short drive away , so yes you need to travel to shop , but really it doesn't detract from the overall experience. This cottage and it's setting is a little diamond. The area itself is very dog friendly with woods nearby and dog friendly beaches on both the south and north coast. The very narrow roads need to be respected and patience is also needed , but that is part of the charm of this part of the world. Kate should be very proud of her little gem , and I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants peace and quiet , but within easy reach of amenities if required

Just returned from a fabulous week ar Damson Cottage. Can honestly say it's the nicest cottage we've stayed in in Cornwall. Beautiful spot, very clean, plenty of towels, bedding and welcome pack was great too. Will definitely recommend to anyone and hope to be back again one day. Thank you to the owners, great job done :-)

Missed blessing for Damson Cottage. Beautiful well appointed cottage. Situated in a quiet area. Lovely gifts of eggs, bacon, milk and more on our arrival. Unfortunately not able to enjoy the cottage as much as we'd liked due to the noise from dogs, cars and children from the other holiday cottages in the courtyard where this cottage is situated. Disappointed there was no mention of these places in the property description. The relaxing peaceful holiday we expected was disturbed every morning and evening as a result.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the mixture of home-grown and Cornish produce left in Damson, and that the cottage has provided a beautiful space from which you could explore Cornwall. I am deeply apologetic that your stay with us was perhaps not as peaceful as you had anticipated. I have now been updated the description of Damson to include the small courtyard setting of the property. Although there are neighbouring holiday cottages, disruptive guests have never been a problem before. I hope that this has not been too detrimental to your vacation and that you were at least able to enjoy the private seating area and garden at the rear of the property, and would like to apologise once again. Thank you for your review and the points that you have raised. My primary aim for all of my guests here at Damson is to provide a relaxing stay within a charming country cottage.

Wow! This place is gorgeous. We chose Dams on cottage because of the enclosed garden as we had our dog with us. The utility/boot/dog room was fantastic to have. We came in and out this way so we could try off the dog and change our shoes while keeping the rest of the cottage clean. My husband loved the log burner and my personal favourite was the bath. It was nice to have the communal outside area too. We found the location a good base for visiting places although nowhere was close to hand. We loved this place and would definitely stay here again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your wonderful review. We are so pleased to hear that you had such a great holiday, and that the cottage met all of your expectations. The boot room is just fab for a holiday with dogs, they seem to love the underfloor heating and slate tiles... especially if you find yourself with a bit of a wet week.. We would love to see you all again soon.
