Description

This property is located on a complex, in a 500-acre farm set in an AONB, with walks from the door.

In a magnificent rural setting, with fabulous views of the Skiddaw mountain range, magnificent sunsets over the Solway Firth, and the hills of Galloway across the border, these comfortable holiday properties were winners of the Keswick Tourism Association Country Establishments in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and the Cumbria in Bloom Tourist Board Rose Bowl for Self Catering Establishment winners in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Rose Cottage (ref LPD) is attached to the owner’s farmhouse home, Rosemary Cottage (ref LTG) adjoins another property, Rambling Rose Cottage (ref LWG) and Rosedale Cottage (ref LYL) are adjacent and have both been converted to a high standard, and Primrose Cottage (ref LPG) has been converted from a former byre and stands in a courtyard which is bedecked with flower tubs, window boxes and hanging baskets. The cottages are beautifully furnished and equipped to VisitBritain ‘5 Star Gold’ standard, except Rosemary Cottage which is equipped to a VisitBritain ‘4 Star Gold’ standard. Guests will enjoy the friendly rare breeds sheep and ponies (including miniature Shetland ponies) and visitors are welcome to walk in the fields surrounding the farm (a red squirrel has been spotted in the grounds), as well as the many public footpaths nearby. This 500-acre farm is set in an AONB, with walks from the door plus superb fell walking nearby. Keswick stands on the shores of Derwent Water and is an excellent base to explore delightful Borrowdale. In the town itself are many interesting shops, inns and restaurants, as well as a leisure pool. Cockermouth also has a swimming pool. Just 6 miles away is Bassenthwaite Lake with a variety of watersports and the Lakeland Wildlife Park. Enjoy Derwent Water, Crummock Water and Buttermere, surrounded by Lakeland’s dramatic scenery. Guests can enjoy the Lakes Distillery, 7 miles away has a lovely visitor attraction and serves good food daily. There is tennis, riding and golf, as well as good fishing locally and excellent bird watching from the farm, as well as the chance to spot the occasional red squirrel and deer, whilst it is a short drive to Osprey Watch at Dodd Wood Bassenthwaite. Shop 4 miles. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants locally (including vegetarian). The pretty village of Caldbeck is 4 miles, with a restaurant, tea rooms and shops. Maes Gallery and tea rooms serving food daily is within 2 miles. Uldale is 2 miles with a pub serving good food, and Ireby is 1½ miles away with a cosy pub with log fire and good food.

I've stayed here before and will happily do so again. The owners bring fresh scones, wine and chocolate and do all that they can to make sure that we are enjoying ourselves. A cosy home from home with satellite tv and wifi for those evenings spent indoors; a field beyond our courtyard with sheep and Shetland ponies! An absolute delight.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful in a stunning location surrounded by the hills of the Northern Lake District. The owners, Alan and Isobel were always on hand to help in the case of any queries. We were presented with tea and warm scones on arrival and a complementary bottle of wine.

We had a fantastic week - this property is in a beautiful quiet country setting with wonderful views. The owners couldn't have been more friendly /welcoming and clearly care about their guest's comfort. My daughter enjoyed walking their dog and feeding the ponies - we are seriously considering returning next year.

A wonderful, cosy cottage in a delightful location. Both The Lakes and Carlisle are nearby and the view outside the cottage include Skiddaw. Great hosts there whose friendly welcome was a treat. The beautiful home-from-home made our holiday very special. Thank you, Alan and Isabel.

The welcome was lovely from the owners. They were friendly and helpful and they let us walk their dog which was fab. They had left us homemade scones and jam, and the table was laid beautifully. It was just what we needed. The cottage was warm and comfortable and we could see sheep out of the window. We loved it.
