A relaxing break in comfortable accommodation. Weather variable, but plenty to do anyway

We really enjoyed our stay at Dairy Cottage. It was a great location for visiting Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. The cottage is comfortable and had everything we needed for a lovely few days away. The bed was really comfy and the sausages and bacon we got on arrival were delicious.

the good: comfortable bed, very clean, good parking, dog friendly the bad: old fashioned furnishings and decor; some traffic noise as it is just off the main road; no wifi; very dark; no views; no amenities like toilet soap or fresh coffee. The cottage is part of a complex that includes a butchery which might be a problem for vegetarians.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Dairy cottage is a well equipped cottage, converted from a small stone farm building within the national park. The conversion has to be and is sympathetic to its surroundings and previous use. The furniture and décor is all new and in keeping with its traditional look. As the accommodation is self catering we do not supply fresh coffee. We do give, as a courtesy, milk portions, coffee portions, tea, sugar, butter, jam, marmalade, fresh orange, bread buns, sausages and bacon as a welcome pack which has been greatly received and appreciated by our visitors. We offer great value for money for anyone staying with us and pride ourselves on the cleanliness of the cottages which are fully double glazed and soundproofed. Although we are near a road we do not feel this to be a nuisance but a good asset with Scarborough being 10 miles away and Whitby being 11 miles away. We do provide sheets and towels and courtesy toilet rolls and we feel adding soap in the bathroom to be a constructive comment and we will be doing this for our guests from now on. Unfortunately because of our rural location we as a family do not have the privilege of Internet broadband which is most inconvenient for us and does not allow us to provide wifi for our guests. Our cottages are not part of a complex. They are situated on our farm with our family home. We do operate a small low key business which delivers to customers meat and pies, but it is a very small business and is not obtrusive to our guests. It provides an income from diversification within the national parks to allow us to be able to live here and maintain our property and sustain to provide food and clothes for our children.

Third time we have stayed at this cottage and once again had a relaxing break. Owners Peter & Jane are really welcoming. Welcome pack is excellent, having on site butchers is also really handy came home with a load of meat again. Cottage fully equipped and really cosy, would recommend it to anyone.

Dairy cottage is a beautiful and cosy warm cottage and our hosts were very friendly and welcoming (including Gismo their dog!). They provide a lovely welcoming pack, and the location is ideal for all of the local seaside resorts. With the costs being very reasonable there is nothing negative to say. Thank you for an excellent stay.

We hadn't realised how near the main road the cottages were. We found the traffic noise a nuisance during the night and early morning. We assumed farm cottages would be off the main track and we would be able to walk from the property rather than having to take the car. The living room was very dark. The owners were pleasant and friendly.

Had a four night break - great little place to stay. Very well equipped cottage, furnished to a high standard. Beautiful views over farmland from bedroom windows. Great for exploring coast, moors and dales. Friendly hosts and the welcome pack was a tasty touch. Right off the main A171, but traffic not too intrusive.
