Welsh Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

Enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful area, located only 4 miles from award-winning beaches and market towns.

Cuckoo Springs Cottages are just 4 miles from beautiful, unspoilt beaches, the Pembrokeshire/Cardigan coastal path, quaint seaside villages and smugglers’ coves. St David’s and Tenby to the south, and New Quay and Aberaeron to the north are just a little further afield. The three cottages (refs ONA, OWS and OWT) are situated on the owner’s smallholding and guests can experience the ‘good life’, help with their rare breed animals, meet the pet pig Ollie and let Sam, one of the horses, take guests for a pony and trap ride. Alternatively, enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this secluded wooded valley, and simply relax in the large garden or stroll through the owner’s bluebell woods and enjoy stunning views across the valley. The cottages date back to the 1700s, are decorated in a comfortable, country farmhouse style and all have wood-burning stoves. Bluebell Cottage and Orchid Cottage have a bathroom and en-suite shower room, making them ideal for families or two couples sharing. Bluebell Cottage also has a large four-poster bed and Juliet balcony, perfect for that romantic break. Champagne, chocolates and a pampering spa session can all be arranged for that special occasion. Free range eggs and home produced meat are often available, and there is plenty of space for dogs to run free, with delightful walks straight from the door. Shop 1 mile, pub within 1 mile.

Adjoining the owner’s 18th-century farmhouse, part of this cottage dates back to 1753 and, with its warm cosy atmosphere and wood burning stove, is perfect for couples seeking a romantic relaxing retreat. Living/dining room with wood-burning stove and fitted kitchen area with French doors to garden. First floor: Double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

A beautiful secluded cottage where we were able to unwind and relax away from all the pressures of life. It was perfect; from the mini food hamper, milk in the fridge and the table set for tea when we arrived to fluffy bathrobes and a full log basket for the log burner. A fabulous week away.

We had a brilliant holiday at Cuckoo Springs. The cottage is in a beautiful setting and we particularly loved the pigs , horses and chicks. Mike and Julie are lovely and very helpful. They took us on their horse and trap which was fabulous and gave us tips on which were the best beaches and restaurants to go to. Our spaniel Charly was made very welcome and enjoyed sniffing around with the pigs! There are some great beaches and coastal walks in the area and we were lucky enough to see dolphins in the bay at Ment and near Aberporth. We would definitely return.

We were made to feel very welcome indeed by our hosts Mike and Julia. The welcome basket was very kind and the warm home made scones were simply the best we've tasted. The cottage would be more comfortable in the summer, we found the nights rather cold. A wood burning fire could be used as could an electric heater but not during the night.

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry you were not comfortable but very much wish you had spoken to us at the time. The cottage has full central heating which is on all day as well as a wood burning stove with all wood provided and electric heater. We would have been more than happy to put the heating on 24/7 if we had been asked. The cottage is found by most guests to be very warm and cosy.

upon arrival at the cottage we were made very welcome by our hosts mike and Julie .we were shown around the cottage and found it to be everything we had hoped for ,snug and cosy with lots of character.lovely log burner with endless supply of logs.the basket of goodies was most welcome. scones and a nice hot brew after our 4 hr journey went down very well .we were soon into the swing of things and were introduced to megan the sheepdog ,who we became good friends with, and to the farm animals .we were later to experience our first pony trap ride ,thanks to sam our trusty steed for our tour of the local wife Hayley and I were enjoying every minute of our stay at cuckoo springs and have promised to return as soon as we can .such a wonderful place ,and Mike and Julie ,two lovely people ,by the end of our stay we felt like we had known them for a lot longer than one week .we visited lots of locations up and down the coast and also fell in love with the beautiful town of Newcastle emlyn with the scenic river Teifi which is stocked with salmon and trout .licenes can be obtained for fishing .also one thing I have to mention is ,I have never come across such friendly people .to Mike and Julie ,cheers to you both and thank you for a wonderful week. ...Alan and Hayley x

the cottage is comfortable enough, chairs, sofa and bed all comfortable. Bathroom also very good. A downside is the electric hob, old fashioned thing, takes ages to heat up and then continues to cook too high until it cools enough. so put 1 ring on high to heat up fast, one on medium and one on simmer and move your pans about. Hasn't any heard about induction hobs???? Take your own non stick frying pan. No freezer or washing machine even though the write-up said access to both, but the owners will let you use theirs, but I don't like that idea. Cottage is a little remote, but beautiful dark skies - never seen so many stars. I am not a drinker so didn't care there is no local pub, but it ain't that far from civilisation so many eating places within 20 minutes drive. The owners are very friendly, but maybe a bit too close for some. But I did like them and their animals a lot. The best thing and the reason we chose it, is it's closeness to so many walks, from the amazing (for views) Preselli hills to the challenging coast paths to the old rail tracks at Aberaeron. The national trust own 2 non-dog beaches, and Llanerchaeron, the nearest property. They are unbelievably anti dog, no where to sit if have a dog, there was an outside area which has now been enclosed by the café and doesn't allow dogs. However if you, like us, just use it as a car park, walk to Aberaeron through the woods and back along the disused rail track, stopping to eat lunch at Aberaeron. Ceredigion is mostly anti-dog too, usually a poor part of the beaches given over to dogs, but luckily Pembrokeshire's Poppit sands are only a short drive away and is by far the best beach in the area. I would visit the cottage again, but I will not stay in Ceredigion again as Pembrokeshire is much more dog and travel friendly.

Thank you for your review. The cooker hob is clearly shown in the pictures as being stainless steel with solid hot plates. It was new 12 months ago is in excellent working order and of a modern design very much still available. The cottage is clearly described as situated on the owners smallholding and adjoining the owners 18th century farmhouse. It has its own secluded seating area and parking space and is not directly over looked. The laundry facilities are also accurately described as shared. The laundry room is at the back of the farmhouse and can be entered without intruding on us or causing any embarrassment .We offered to show you but for some reason you declined. We then offered our free laundry service where your laundry is washed dried and returned within 24 hours, similar to a 5 star hotel which you also refused.. We provide 2 high quality stainless steel frying pans, a large and a small. The National trusts policy on dogs applies nation wide, not just to Ceredigion, and is ofcourse beyond our control . We are on the borders of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, and Carmarthen and pay little attention to which county a beach is in as all the beaches in this beautiful area are stunning and nearly all dog friendly as confirmed by many of other guests.
