This traditional farmhouse provides an ideal holiday base with views across the countryside. It boasts many period and regional features: there is a Lakeland ‘keeping slab’ in the utility and a ‘Creole’ clothes rack in the kitchen. Spacious Lakeland accommodation, it has a large garden and wooded grounds that extend to over an acre, where wildlife is encouraged. Many footpaths which lead direct from the farmhouse to the shores of Coniston Lake, 1 mile, Duddon Valley and the Old Man of Coniston, with the whole of the Lake District easily accessible. There are some excellent rock climbing routes and this impressive landscape is popular with fell runners. Ambleside 10 miles and Lake Windermere just 14 miles away offer attractions, including The World of Beatrix Potter and the Windermere Steamboat Museum, as well as boat tours on the lake. Coniston, 2½ miles, for fishing and tennis. Ulverston, 12 miles, a market town which is also famous as the birthplace of Stan Laurel, whose life is celebrated at the Laurel and Hardy Museum. Other attractions include the Heritage Centre, glass factory and Hoad Monument, built on top of a hill and offering fine views of the bay and hills. Beach at Grange-over-Sands, 20 miles. Shop 21/2 miles, pubs 1/2 mile.

    We stayed at Crook Farm for Christmas week it was brilliant.The overall size of the accommodation enabled our party of ten their space ,whilst the large country kitchen meant we had really good fun preparing and enjoying our meals together. Would highly recommend this property.

    This is a great farmhouse and lovely gardens situated in an idyllic setting. The house is big enough for a large party not to keep falling over themselves. It is well-equipped and the beds are very comfortable. The location is just wonderful, with walks off in every direction. You can catch a launch at Torver Landing on Coniston Water, which is an easy mile's walk, then walk back from Coniston along the old railway line. The fitter members of our party walked up the Old Man of Coniston from the door, and from there other impressive fells are easily accessible. Most important, there are two excellent pubs serving good food and great beer just a few hundred yards' walk away.

    We were a family party of grandparents, parents, children and dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday , with the secluded garden safe and secure for the children and dogs. A few minutes walk to two pubs for drinks and food, and walks from the cottage to the fells and lake. The accommodation is good, plenty of space for the children to play, and the kitchen facilities were good for such a large party of ages ranging from 1 year to 67. We will certainly return.
