Description

Imposing Lakeland farmhouse which includes period features, Aga and open fire with lovely views across the countryside.

This traditional farmhouse provides an ideal holiday base with views across the countryside. It boasts many period and regional features: there is a Lakeland ‘keeping slab’ in the utility and a ‘Creole’ clothes rack in the kitchen. Spacious Lakeland accommodation, it has a large garden and wooded grounds that extend to over an acre, where wildlife is encouraged. Many footpaths which lead direct from the farmhouse to the shores of Coniston Lake, 1 mile, Duddon Valley and the Old Man of Coniston, with the whole of the Lake District easily accessible. There are some excellent rock climbing routes and this impressive landscape is popular with fell runners. Ambleside 10 miles and Lake Windermere just 14 miles away offer attractions, including The World of Beatrix Potter and the Windermere Steamboat Museum, as well as boat tours on the lake. Coniston, 2½ miles, for fishing and tennis. Ulverston, 12 miles, a market town which is also famous as the birthplace of Stan Laurel, whose life is celebrated at the Laurel and Hardy Museum. Other attractions include the Heritage Centre, glass factory and Hoad Monument, built on top of a hill and offering fine views of the bay and hills. Beach at Grange-over-Sands, 20 miles. Shop 21/2 miles, pubs 1/2 mile.

    10/10/2016
    Confirmed guest, 03/10/2016
We had a fabulous time at Crook Farm and it was an excellent setting for our family get together. There was absolutely everything we needed and all out needs were catered for. It is obviously quite old fashioned but is in keeping with the building but could do with maybe a slight modernisation. A number of features within the building are quite tired. Although dishes and bedding etc were all clean we did feel the property could do with a really good spring clean and a fresh coat of paint almost everrywhere! There are cobwebs and dust etc throughout the building and not just new ones, some have clearly been there for a very long time. We all live in the country and are aware of the difficulties that brings but there is no need for these not to be attended too. When we arrived there was actually food crumbs still on the breakfast table. The property had a "not been visited for a while" feel to it, but then there was fresh crumbs! All in all, we had a fabulous time and it served our purpose. We would consider another visit, but there are many other properties in the area to chose from and I do think Crook Farm needs some TLC to bring it up to scratch. That said, we would possibly consider staying again. Kind regards Sandra

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Apologies if the Farmhouse didn’t meet your standards. As we were there with friends two weeks beforehand, I can vouch any cobwebs, unless in very restricted places, were likely to be less than 2 weeks old. It sounds as if the prior clean was not up to standard and we will highlight this to our cleaners.
