Description

Thistledown Cottage is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts - nestling in 9 acres of grounds and just 2 miles from the seaside resort of Bude.

Crockwood Farm is the perfect choice for a relaxing seaside holiday. Nestled within glorious countryside and just 2 miles from the traditional seaside resort of Bude and its many delightful, sandy beaches. With spectacular views across the valley towards the coast and 9 acres of pretty field and woodland walks to enjoy, this tranquil retreat will appeal to all. Each cottage is presented to a very good standard and the playfield located on the top field is great for young and old to let off steam with play equipment and a badminton/volleyball net. The nearby village of Poughill, 1 mile, has a pretty church and popular village inn. Just a short drive from Bude’s historic castle and canal is the vibrant town centre with its vast array of good restaurants and bars, and its glorious sandy beaches and coastal path. In late August Bude is host to the internationally acclaimed annual jazz festival, an event not to be missed. Golf, tennis, horse riding, coastal walking, surfing, indoor ‘Splash’ pool, fishing and mountain boarding are all on offer locally: the list is almost endless so you’ll never be short of things to do! If you can manage to drag yourself away then the pretty fishing villages of Padstow, Port Isaac and Rock are well worth a visit and mystical Tintagel with the legendary King Arthur’s castle is close by. The wild beauty of Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moors is a must for walkers and nature lovers and for a great day out Crealy Adventure Park, Newquay Zoo and the famous Eden Project are all within easy driving distance. For family fun the Big Sheep and Milky Way adventure parks are not to be missed. Shop/post office 1¾ miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

The only downside for us was the shower over the bath and the water pressure. The cottage was lovely and cosy and we would go back again.

Great holiday in this cottage! Myself, my husband and 2 year old. Cottage comfortable and cosy, nice and warm. Real pleasant surprise to find fresh flowers, pint of milk and a cream tea waiting for us on arrival. Kitchen well stocked with everything required. I found the bed uncomfortable, but my husband liked it. That's down to individual opinion. Only downside was the shower. No stand-up shower, 1/2 height one over bath. It was really difficult to wash my hair, I have long and very thick hair, the water pressure wasn't brilliant. This was not an issue for my husband or my daughter. It would not put me off staying there again, it really was a lovely place. Beautifully kept. Very clean and tidy inside and out. Nice to look out at the well kept gardens and the lovely flowers. Well thought out areas - kids play area/field with swings/see-saw etc, as well as badminton and footballs. Great to let off steam. Had a lovely walk in the wood. My daughter enjoyed looking for feathers, pine cones and acorns. Then walk down the fields to the ponds, just wonderful. Very clever wood carvings everywhere. 2 x bears on the driveway, carved from trees. My daughter loved these and took time to say hello every time we drove past. Fantastic location. Minutes from the seafront at Bude, easy reach of many other locations. I would definitely recommend this cottage to others. It's peaceful, beautiful, clean, well kept and reasonably priced. Thank you for a lovely holiday!

We had a great time at Thistledown. Lovely cosy cottage, very clean. Everything we needed. 10 minutes from the coast in the car. There was a lovely play area at the back for our little boy.

Great cottage! Clean and well kept, with a friendly welcome from the owners. Good location and facilities. Our children loved the outdoor space (play field)! There is a short shower over the bath (not full standing height) which was fine for our needs and we had not expected a shower from the cottage description. All in all we had a great holiday and the cottage was good value for money.

We had an absolutely lovely time at Thistledown Cottage in Bude. It was impeccably clean, well thought out, everything one would need for a holiday provided right down to a lovely cream tea and flowers on arrival. The hosts were welcoming and friendly, the gardens beautiful, the setting idyllic. The cottage is extremely conveniently positioned: 7 minutes to our favourite beach, Crooklets, 8 minutes to Bude town centre and 20 minutes from the wild and beautiful Crackington Haven. Also we found Bude and surrounding areas very charming, full of unexpected delights. Surrounding old towns beautiful and steeeped in history. We would love to go there again and hope we can. PS for anyone who has caeliac disease or gluten intolerance Bude is really 'user friendly' as I found many establishments who provided for this dietary need :)
