Was beautifully renovated, a couple of areas needing a bit of a touch up but that's to be expected in an old croft cottage. The location was very peaceful and off the beaten track. Close enough to Skye bridge to enjoy the surroundings For any aurora hunters we had a spectacular view! Very clean, tidy, toasty log burners and well equipped A lovely solace for couples to relax.

The location of Sallachy is absolutely beautiful. As well as being a perfect base for exploring Skye and Wester Ross there are some fantastic walks in the immediate area (and good maps in the house to help with navigation). Unfortunately, regarding the garden and the general homeliness of the house, we were quite disappointed. Although the sign close by the house indicated we had arrived at Creag Mohr cottage, we were still convinced we were at the wrong place as the approach seemed more like the entrance to a building site rather than a ‘wonderfully romantic’ holiday cottage. The views are no longer as suggested on the photos – only from one small corner of the garden is it possible to see the Loch Long. Even if the views had been good, the garden furniture was not in a great state to sit on to enjoy them. The midge problem around the house (mid-September) made sure we didn’t stay out in the garden longer than was necessary anyway. Logs upon arrival would have been good as the cottage is otherwise quite cold and it would have been nicer if the wood burners had been cleaned out before we arrived. Logs did appear on the doorstep the day after arrival but, as with others before us, the logs were wet and wouldn’t burn. Tip: cut the logs up into smaller pieces and let them dry out for a day in order to get them to burn. They do eventually! A few more standard home comforts would have been good (2 towels each with which to shower for 10 days is not really enough) and no change of bedding in 10 days is a bit unhygienic. With the bare minimum of pans, it was quite a challenge to cook for two. (I’m curious how four would manage). We first had to thoroughly scrub the wok free from grease and rust before we could use it. A teapot would have been very useful. The shower was fantastic but the shower curtain needs replaced or needs a good wash to remove the mould. Such a great shame as judging by the photographs in the house and the comments in the guest book, a lot of time, energy and love originally went into rebuilding and refurbishing this cottage and making guests feel at home. Despite the above, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday thanks to the fantastic walking on Skye and above/behind Loch Long. And don’t believe all you hear about Scottish weather. We had two afternoons of rain in 10 days, the rest of the time there was only sunshine!

Lovely cottage in scenic area, very peaceful. Garden was a bit unkept, which let it down a little. If your staying more than a few days you will need loads of logs. Which are for sale locally and at petrol stations etc.

The photo shown above must have been taken a few years ago, as now the cottage is surrounded by trees and the view is partly obscured by a new house. There was building rubbish / equipment lying around on the approach to the cottage. The "basket of logs supplied" contained wet logs that didn't burn, so it was difficult to get the cottage warm. Upon arrival, we found that the wood burning stoves had not been cleaned out. The kitchen was poorly equipped: there were 2 pans, only one lid. There were 2 frying pans and 1 wok, but the wok and one of the frying pans were so dirty and rusty, they were unusable. Sorry to say this, but overall, the cottage felt a bit uncared for. For example, the garden had rubbish in it, and the grass needed cutting, while large stinging nettles were sprouting up at the entrance and all along the front of the cottage. The location is stunning and tranquil, but the immediate vicinity of the cottage didn't invite one to spend much time there.
