Customers’ Choice Award 2018
This magnificent house has plenty of original features, and is a great base from which to enjoy this stunning part of Scotland.

Truly magnificent, Craigbittern House is a stunning, Scottish Baronial-style Victorian house, located in a commanding position in the small village of Sandyhills, above a beautiful bay overlooking the Solway coastline. Built around 1890, this grand detached house has been renovated throughout, but retains many of the wonderful period features, such as fireplaces, cornicing and shutters. The striking turret also provides a lovely alcove in the main living room and the bedroom above, a lovely quiet place just to sit and take in the spectacular view of Sandyhills Bay. Craigbittern House has its very own annexe (with its own external entrance), formerly the Coach House, now converted to a delightful cottage which has a modern, cosy feel in comparison to the grand, elegant feel of the main house. The views over the Solway Firth to the Cumbrian coast are quite breathtaking, and you could quite easily entertain yourself just with the views alone.
The area around Craigbittern House and further afield is a delight, with something to suit all ages. There is an abundance of walks available, from scenic coastal walks to forest trails. With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is sure to be something for everyone. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust) at Castle Douglas, and further afield, the world renowned Logan Botanic Gardens. Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, and central to five of the 7Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Take a short drive along the coast to Kippford, a charming sailing village which has two pubs on the waterfront. Beach 200 yards. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

A beautiful victorian house with a cosy cottage attached. Along with my family I celebrated my 70th birthday, I couldnt have chosen a better area or place to stay, the house and cottage facilities were perfect. We spent most evenings around the pit fire in the garden, my teenage grandchildren loved the games room. We played a murder mystery game during dinner around a table made for 13. The beach with a path to it is straight across the road, it was an ideal place to walk on with our two dogs, further along the beach to the right there are amazingly high granite cliffs with caves and rock pools. Considering it was the end of October into November the weather was really good, hardly any rain and lots of sunshine so we took advantage of the beach most days. I will certainly return as i fell in love with whole holiday.

Great big house for a larger group. Lots of space and additional rooms. Decor and furniture v new and v high quality which gives luxurious feel to the place. Great big secure garden. Amazing games room. Lovely beach just over the road. Really great area. Good instructions and welcome pack. Heating v effective for colder spells, but only one thermostat for main house and adjoining cottage so took a bit of tweaking. Only minor grumble was rayburn was too cold to cook on (but lovely to have to dry things on etc) and electric hob oven door wouldn't close properly.

It was a wonderful experience. The cottage was away above the standard we expected with all our needs catered for. The annexe set apart from the main house was used by our teenagers who we hardly seen all week-end again well equipped. Would. Recommend this accommodation for those wishing a holiday who liked doing the 'outdoor' activities.
