Description

This is in a perfect location for exploring the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and beyond.

Indoor heated swimming pool/hot tub
BHS Approved Riding Centre

The ancient farmhouse at Werngochlyn dates back to the 12th century. It nestles in open farmland underneath the Skirrid Mountain and the four comfortable holiday cottages are sympathetically converted from stone farm buildings set around the farmyard. The setting is perfect for children of all ages (adults too!). There is plenty of room to run around and explore – and plenty of animals to befriend…. a pair of Kune-kune miniature pigs, a very large Gloucester Old Spot, a donkey, goats, sheep, chickens (you can collect your own eggs for breakfast if you want to), ducks, dogs, cats and loads of horses and ponies – including a tiny rescue pony named Tinkerbell.
You could stay around the farm all day – with a heated, indoor swimming pool, hot tub, games room and riding school on site with tuition for all ages from 4 years plus and then a BBQ in the evening. There are footpaths running directly from the farm and dogs are welcome. You are ideally place to explore the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Usk and Wye Valleys and the fantastic countryside that surrounds the nearest market town of Abergavenny which is only 3 miles away – home of the Food Festival. It boasts good shops and a market, a cinema, theatre, castle and museum as well as good choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants including Michelin starred ‘Walnut Tree’ which is within walking distance of the farm. An 18-hole golf course and driving range is only ½ mile away. An enjoyable stay that will have you wanting to return. Shop 3 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 bunk or single (for children). Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Cot. High chair. Electric cooker. Shared laundry room. Wi-fi. Sitting-out area and picnic bench. Barbecue. Ample parking. Shared indoor heated swimming pool, open 14th March-2nd November. Shared games room. Two pets welcome, under strict control please (livestock). WTB 3 Dragons. NB: Unfenced shallow stream in grounds.

We had a fabulous time! The owners where very welcoming and helpful and the location was beautiful. Our 7 year old had a riding lesson with Maggie who was so lovely with him and he hasn't stopped talking about her and his lesson since. Its the perfect location if you want the peace and tranquility of the countryside but still with the option of a short drive to go exploring. The cottage was just as I expected small, cosy and welcoming. We will definitely be returning again in the future.

Fantastic place to stay. Cosy, comfortable, clean and well equipped. Games room loved by the grandchildren, pool great fun and the hot tub really relaxing. Everyone is so friendly, including the animals! There's loads to do in the area from Big Pit to gardens and some great places to eat. We would recommend Abergavenny and Usk for a look round and don't listen to the folk who may tell you that the Welsh aren't friendly cos they are friendly and we felt really welcome wherever we went.

We had a great time staying here and using it as a base to explore the surrounding area. During our week here we found plenty to do, (including visiting several local castles, the show caves and Blenaefon where the Big Pit coal mine and old iron works are located, (we visited these following the many recommendations in the cottage's visitors book and were not disappointed). The cottage had plenty of space for us, (a family of four), and the kitchen was lovely and clean. The farm itself had plenty for the children to do - sheep and a goat to fuss, pigs to feed and chickens with eggs we were allowed to help ourselves to. The swimming pool and hot-tub were open until 10pm and we used these five times, (and each time it was like our private room as we were the only ones in it). The pool was also nice and deep, (seven feet at the deepest). Our children also had a horse riding lesson on site during which they really enjoyed and they also learned a lot about posture and control on a pony.
