BHS Approved Riding Centre

The ancient farmhouse at Werngochlyn dates back to the 12th century. It nestles in open farmland underneath the Skirrid Mountain and the four comfortable holiday cottages are sympathetically converted from stone farm buildings set around the farmyard. The setting is perfect for children of all ages (adults too!). There is plenty of room to run around and explore – and plenty of animals to befriend…. a pair of Kune-kune miniature pigs, a very large Gloucester Old Spot, a donkey, goats, sheep, chickens (you can collect your own eggs for breakfast if you want to), ducks, dogs, cats and loads of horses and ponies – including a tiny rescue pony named Tinkerbell.
You could stay around the farm all day – with a heated, indoor swimming pool, hot tub, games room and riding school on site with tuition for all ages from 4 years plus and then a BBQ in the evening. There are footpaths running directly from the farm and dogs are welcome. You are ideally place to explore the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Usk and Wye Valleys and the fantastic countryside that surrounds the nearest market town of Abergavenny which is only 3 miles away – home of the Food Festival. It boasts good shops and a market, a cinema, theatre, castle and museum as well as good choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants including Michelin starred ‘Walnut Tree’ which is within walking distance of the farm. An 18-hole golf course and driving range is only ½ mile away. An enjoyable stay that will have you wanting to return. Shop 3 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 bunk or single (for children). Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Cot. High chair. Electric cooker. Shared laundry room. Wi-fi. Sitting-out area and picnic bench. Barbecue. Ample parking. Shared indoor swimming pool, open from Easter, closed winter. Please enquire when booking. Shared games room. Two pets welcome, under strict control please (livestock). WTB 3 Dragons. A very nice stay, my grand son keeps asking us when we are going again as he really enjoyed his holiday. His highlight was feeding the animals and playing in the pool. .

This place is a wonderfully placed hidden gem and we can't wait to go back. If you're looking for peace and tranquillity then this id the place to go, the friendly atmosphere is a bonus. The hosts were lovely, down to earth and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Collecting your own fresh eggs for breakfast was delightful, the eggs were so fresh and yummy. I made friends with plenty of farm animals too which was an awesome experience. We hope to go back soon.

hot tub great. accommodation warm . kitchen had been updated rest of accommodation tired looking shabby no towel rails in the bathroom. Drive in dreadful condition. Swimming pool used on sunday 25 march not very clean water. the floor around swimming pool and hot tub dirty. we never used the changing rooms as in a very poor state.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for your comments which we truly take account of. The drive was particularly in a bad state when you were with us. It has taken a real pounding this Winter, and was completely covered with snow drifts only a couple of weeks beforehand - just as we were about to put it right. The work has now been done and is hugely improved - but we are sorry that we couldn't get to it - either because of manpower, available tractors or materials, before your stay. We have not had any previous complaints about the changing rooms and the pool was in massive use the week that you were here. It is cleaned daily and we always appreciate anyone letting us know if it needs more attention of any description at any time and we will jump to it. The cottage has had lots of new furniture - beds, wardrobes and the like. We try to keep a rural feel to it - but unfortunately this doesn't always suit everyone's taste. (There is a heated towel rail in the bathroom behind the door?) We do hope that these points didn't spoil your holiday and that we might see you again in the future.

The Brecon Beacons area and Abergavenny were a great place to have a holiday with lots and lots to do. We also rented Granary Cottage for our daughter and family. Both cottages were very tired with clearly very second-hand uncomfortable settees all covered up with throws. Although it was early in the season both properties would benefit from a thorough clean and total redecoration. In Cowshed there was no grill pan handle and the oven door would not close in Granary. These faults were reported to the owner on the first day, but nothing was done about them. We discovered during the week that the prices paid were very high in comparison to other similar local properties. In Granary there was a broken metal carpet strip which 2 of our party injured their feet on. The pool and hot-tub however was good although the changing rooms and pool surround were also very scruffy and dirty. Our grandchildren loved the animals and collecting the eggs.
