Description

Enjoy country gardens and castles galore, or bring your passport and visit France before returning for a relaxing soak in the hot tub.

Ideally situated for walkers and cyclists

Nestling in the 120-acre manorial common of Stelling Minnis and Lyminge Forest in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is Courthope Farm. The holiday cottages have been sympathetically renovated in keeping with their surroundings. All guests are able to use the hot tub in the centre of the courtyard and can also explore the owner’s 8 acres of farmland. Ideally situated for walkers and cyclists close to the North Downs Way and many other cycle routes. Catch the county cricket at Canterbury or try your luck at the races at Folkestone race course. Car racing can be enjoyed at Lydden and Brands Hatch and birdwatchers will be in their element at Dungeness, Sandwich or Stodmarsh. For the garden enthusiast, Kent has more gardens open to the public than any other county in England so try Scotney Castle garden and Sissinghurst. Castles are also abundant – see Leeds, Dover and Walmer and if you wish to visit further afield the Channel Tunnel is a 10-minute drive, enabling you to visit France or if you prefer to go by ferry – Dover is 30 minutes away. NB. Properties 23556, 23558 & 23559 can be booked together for larger parties. Shop and pub ¼ mile.

In over thirty years of visiting cottages, the hosts were the most unfriendly, unhelpful and in one case, downright rude, we have ever encountered. I echo previous reviews concerning them behaving like an officious parking attendant, poor standards of cleanliness, needing an up-date eg no curtains, only blinds, lack of basic equipment eg no bread-knife and difficulty in using some equipment. When we enquired about the difficult to use oven controls we were told 'nobody else had complained and we were always complaining'. This was blatantly untrue as a previous s reviewer has raised exactly the same point. The heater in the double bedroom was not working and hanging off the wall. The cottage was cold on arrival, but no heating turned on.

Dirty, clumps of pet hair on kitchen floor and in living room, and family bathroom stank. I informed the owner, Mrs Thorne, of the smwll who told me she didn't do the cleaning and handed me half a bottle of disinfectant!

We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The mobile signal was very poor there, but it didn't spoil our week away. Lovely and quiet setting. Cottage very comfortable with a big kitchen / diner.

The property requires a total overhaul, starting with a deep and thorough clean. There were cobwebs everywhere. There was thick dust under the bed, an old hair slide and bits of rubbish in the drawers. Switches for shower and towel rail were above the door frame so only accessible if you were of at least average height. Towels were old and rough. There were no grab rails in the bathroom. The under work top fridge-freezer was way too small for four people (1/3 feeezer & 2/3 fridge) and was not switched on when we arrived. Fridge door shelf was also broken and owner asked us to repair it. The oven tins were filthy. There were no markings on the hob to say which knob operated which ring. Very out of date tourist information leaflets, inc a tatty 2013 copy of Kent Life! Be careful how you park your car or you will be in trouble from one of the owners who acted like a parking warden. We had a rather negative welcome when we arrived, basically being told all the things we must not do. There was no welcome pack - except a carton of UHT milk. It was all very disappointing because with some care and attention to detail and cleanliness, it could be a really good holiday property.

This was a smashing holiday let in very picturesque part of England, lots of places to visit and not to far to travel to. Your very own alarm clock (the geese). Could do with black out blinds in bedrooms as 4.30 is alittle to early to get up when on holiday.

The cottage on arrival was not as clean as we have had in other cottages . 1.. The bath had a tide marks ,and had to be cleaned before use 2.. The cooker was grimy ,the pans had to be washed before use 3.. The hob controls had no setting markings , making it difficult to use . 4.. The shower tray was not draining properly ,and towels were like cardboard 5.. The lower bed sheet was had been washed but there was a blood stain on it . 6.. Cob webs in every corner In fact the cottage was cleaner when we left , we did leave a day early as we had a busy day on the Saturday .
