Description

Couples can enjoy the adjacent country park with its wealth of wildlife whilst staying at this cosy retreat.

On-site facilities including swimming pool

These beautiful cottages have been tastefully renovated from a traditional Welsh barn and are set in the heart of Pembrokeshire alongside the Llys-y-Fran Country Park and reservoir. There are plenty of facilities available for guests free of charge, including croquet and badminton, a heated covered swimming pool, all-weather tennis court and a children’s play garden. You can also enjoy the country park which is less than a minute’s walk and has a 200-acre reservoir and an impressive 100ft dam, the largest game fishing in west Wales. This is a beautiful woodland setting with a delightful nature trail for both walkers and cyclists, and an 8-mile perimeter trail providing fine views and a variety of wildlife including badgers, foxes and otters. The broadleaf woodland provides a breeding site for sparrowhawk, buzzard and woodpecker, whilst the lake attracts uncommon water bird species such as little gull and black tern. Set in the heart of Pembrokeshire, giving access to beaches, national park, the historic Preseli Mountains and the worlds famous Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Coastal Path. Within a short drive is Oakwood Theme Park. A holiday in Pembrokeshire would not be complete without a visit to the picturesque harbour and the golden beaches at Tenby or the busy resort of Saundersfoot, a complete contrast from the more secluded parts perhaps, but always popular with children. Also within a short drive are Manor House Wildlife Park, Caldey Island, with its cistercian monastery and countless historic castles such as Carew, and Pembroke. It is an ideal location for a perfect family holiday as a getaway or for trying some of the outdoor pursuits and entertainment. Pembrokeshire is famous for its excellent restaurants and pubs. In the immediate vicinity there is the country park restaurant and two pubs serving food in the village of Clarbeston Road (3 miles). Golf and horse riding are within 5 miles.

The cottage was very well equipped. There were heaters and a wood burner which were welcome on chilly evenings. Although on a complex we were away from the main facilities so it was quiet and private. We didn't use the pool or other facilities. A 'welcome pack' with a few basics (tea, coffee, milk, washing up liquid/dishwasher tabs, bathroom soap) would have given the cottage a more personal touch.

The owner was very welcoming, we did have a few issues re bedroom door handle jamming & cooker hood not working. Garath fix the door handle but couldn't fix the cooker hood. There is no heating at all in the bathroom. The cottage was OK for the 2 of us & dog. As other reviews had stated the front door with clear glass was right in front of bathroom door so when dark we put a towel up over the glass to provide privacy. The setting is very peaceful but nearest shop for papers etc 3.5miles & 2 pubs in opposite directions don't do meals on a Sunday night & some other evenings as well so it is remote. The visitor centre at the reservoir does not allow dogs inside & only has 2 picnic tables outside but the staff are friendly & the food good, same goes for the food & staff at both pubs.

Corner Cottage is a lovely converted barn, just right for 2 people. It has everything you need for a break, the only thing I would say is that the bed is a small double. it is in a beautiful part of Wales with lovely walks by the reservoir which is just through a gate at the end of the property.

We had a relaxed holiday but unfortunately the weather wasn't favourable. We were in thick mist and it drizzled for most of the week which restricted our outdoor activities and facilities were not opening until Easter, so for us that week, nothing much to do there. As we had dogs with us we had to go further afield for walks like to Newgale beach and down to Amroth, St David's, Porthgain - lovely areas but difficulty in finding our way back to Llys y Fram in thick mist.
