Description

Couples can enjoy the adjacent country park with its wealth of wildlife whilst staying at this cosy retreat.

On-site facilities including swimming pool

These beautiful cottages have been tastefully renovated from a traditional Welsh barn and are set in the heart of Pembrokeshire alongside the Llys-y-Fran Country Park and reservoir. There are plenty of facilities available for guests free of charge, including croquet and badminton, a heated covered swimming pool, all-weather tennis court and a children’s play garden. You can also enjoy the country park which is less than a minute’s walk and has a 200-acre reservoir and an impressive 100ft dam, the largest game fishing in west Wales. This is a beautiful woodland setting with a delightful nature trail for both walkers and cyclists, and an 8-mile perimeter trail providing fine views and a variety of wildlife including badgers, foxes and otters. The broadleaf woodland provides a breeding site for sparrowhawk, buzzard and woodpecker, whilst the lake attracts uncommon water bird species such as little gull and black tern. Set in the heart of Pembrokeshire, giving access to beaches, national park, the historic Preseli Mountains and the worlds famous Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Coastal Path. Within a short drive is Oakwood Theme Park. A holiday in Pembrokeshire would not be complete without a visit to the picturesque harbour and the golden beaches at Tenby or the busy resort of Saundersfoot, a complete contrast from the more secluded parts perhaps, but always popular with children. Also within a short drive are Manor House Wildlife Park, Caldey Island, with its cistercian monastery and countless historic castles such as Carew, and Pembroke. It is an ideal location for a perfect family holiday as a getaway or for trying some of the outdoor pursuits and entertainment. Pembrokeshire is famous for its excellent restaurants and pubs. In the immediate vicinity there is the country park restaurant and two pubs serving food in the village of Clarbeston Road (3 miles). Golf and horse riding are within 5 miles.

Corner Cottage is a lovely converted barn, just right for 2 people. It has everything you need for a break, the only thing I would say is that the bed is a small double. it is in a beautiful part of Wales with lovely walks by the reservoir which is just through a gate at the end of the property.

We had a relaxed holiday but unfortunately the weather wasn't favourable. We were in thick mist and it drizzled for most of the week which restricted our outdoor activities and facilities were not opening until Easter, so for us that week, nothing much to do there. As we had dogs with us we had to go further afield for walks like to Newgale beach and down to Amroth, St David's, Porthgain - lovely areas but difficulty in finding our way back to Llys y Fram in thick mist.

I was expecting a luxury cottage as 4 stars, and usually stay in a 3 star cottage, but was disappointed with the accommodation here. The layout was a bit strange with the bathroom and bedroom off the kitchen. The glass panelled front door was opposite the bathroom! There was a huge American fridge which was unnecessary as this cottage is only suitable for a couple, and the space could have been utilised better. Well equipped with a dishwasher (not used), washing machine (not used), microwave, electric hob and oven. Mostly clean apart from corners and the skylight in kitchen. Unfortunately the vacuum cleaner was not sufficient. The bedroom was incredibly small and the bed a small double. The lounge was lovely, beautifully decorated and we used the log burning fire for a cosy evening in. There was no central heating, so difficulty drying towels and wet clothes- weather not great. Location is great- next to a reservoir and dam, but transport is a must. We did use the swimming pool which was lovely. The owner was friendly and greeted us even though we were late arriving (traffic issues), although we did inform. It would be useful to have a starter pack and I missed a welcome pack of a milk /tea/ coffee and in previous cottages- scones, plum cake, Welsh cakes to name a few.

Lovely little cottage with plenty to do onsite and nearby. Everything you could possibly need has been provided including an oven an microwave. Enclosed garden was perfect for the dog.
