After settling in comfortably, the owner arrived to check everything was ok. With humour we pointed out a bent potato peeler as our only complaint. To our surprise first thing in the morning she duly arrived with a brand new fully functioning, state of the art, stainless steel peeler! (so friendly). A previous negative review is so incorrect. It is in an enchanting semi woodland setting with parking right outside the front door, ideal for the infirm. We had a cosy romantic stay and stayed an extra night. Stones throw from Normanton Church beach and 4 minutes drive to local pub (excellent good value food). We hope to return soon. Highly recommended.

Where to start! Water pressure was so appalling that filling a bath was impossible and shower was so weak that we were unable to use (we couldn’t wait to get home to wash properly). Bed was like a water bed and sleep was uncomfortable as the movement when we turned over was like being on a boat. The tiny sofa was inadequate ( an additional chair is required and would fit) and the cushions were sitting on a hardboard base so no comfy spring base. The bedroom door would not close properly due to a cupboard door latch rather that a bedroom door latch so the dog kept coming in. There was no welcome pack with useful and essential information pertaining to the property and eventually we found a few photocopies of walks but nothing useful. We took some time trying to find the switch for the shower power source and the oven power, when left on, made a very loud clicking sound all night and it took time to track down the irritating sound. The look of the cottage and the location were lovely but the interior let it down badly and we wouldn’t recommend it or stay there again.

Freezing cold, not insulated, dark and dank. Overall clean except for windows and skylight in the "hall". Carpet cheap and stained, an eclectic collection of furniture from various decades of the 20th Century.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I would like to address the comments made as I do find them rather unfair. With regard to ‘freezing cold’ - the weather for that week was an average of 20 degrees. The storage heaters were on low, which had been regulated by the previous guests, who had vacated that same day. The heaters can be regulated, but take a little while to increase in heat. There is a very efficient electric heater in the cupboard of the cottage, as I understand this was not used to give additional heat. The cottage is located next to 4, 150 year old stunning Copper Beech trees, and at certain times of the year when it has its full coverage of leaves, it can make the cottage a little darker than usual, but there is more than ample lighting in the cottage. The furniture consists of an antique solid light oak dining table, with matching chairs, with a console table and additional occasional chair in the same wood. The furnishings are in keeping with a building that is over 150 years old, with exposed brick and beams, with cream walls in the sitting room. The interior is very clearly shown on the cottage website. The windows are cleaned regularly, but being near the trees tend daily to get cobwebs on. Regarding the carpet, sadly recently some guests haven't been that careful with their red wine, and there have been two spillages. The dining / sitting room, plus kitchen (last week) has been totally re done; now having a wood effect floor throughout those areas. It is a pity that these guests didn't contact me whilst staying, I did introduce myself as they arrived, stating that if they needed anything / or needed to know, just to call me. Our aim is to make their stay relaxing and enjoyable, hence leaving fresh fruit, fresh flowers and cakes in the cottage.

Great place to relax and sleep which is all I needed to do, but lots of opportunities for walking, biking, sailing etc
