We felt that the cottage was disappointing when çompared to other we have stayed in for a similar price. The external views on on the net gave a false impression as grass in front of the cottage has been replaced by a very high fence, and the hedge has now grown to eight foot tall. Add the very tall beech trees and the whole area is quite dark and clostrophobic. We had our two dogs with us but the instructions stated that they must be on a lead outside the cottage, hardly the most dog friendly. Inside the cottage there were several problems that we have discovered are long standing, such as taps that have to be twisted hard to stop them running, bedroom door that doesn't shut, bathroom extractor fan that didn't work, a rediculously high bed (why it had three mattresses is beyond me) and a moving loo seat. By far the most important fault was that the smoke detector was missing.

Response on behalf of the owner; With regard to the grassed area there is indeed a hedge which since the photograph was taken has grown. This hedge was planted to shield the cottages from winds that come from the water. There are areas in the hedge that have been kept low so a good view of the water can still be had. As the name implies, (Copper Beech Cottage) there are beautiful Copper Beech trees next to the cottage, which all have a preservation order on them. The cottage does have ample windows, plus skylights, which maximises the light. With reference to dogs being on leads, my understanding is that from Cottages4You their policy is that dogs should always be on leads in communal areas. I am a dog lover, but not everyone is, and sometimes people feel rather intimated by them. Certainly where the cottage is located there are so many walks for dogs within minutes from the cottage. I was unaware of any issues with the tap and will have it looked at ASAP, plus the toilet seat. The smoke alarm has been taken out of the bedroom, as guests complained that the light on it was a distraction at night. There is another smoke alarm located outside the bedroom. The location of the alarm does pass Health & Safety requirements. The bed is a high bed. Beds do come in different sizes and heights, and like most things it down to personal preference. We do try to accommodate all, and sorry that you didn't find it to your satisfaction. I hope you found the holiday enjoyable and relaxing, and thank you for bringing the above to my attention.

Very pleasant stay in a lovely cottage . Rutland Water is a very relaxing place and the accommodation is functional and welcoming . The owner is charming and very accomodating . Only small downside , the shower, just functional and that was sorely lacking pressure. We'll be back again if we ever return to the region (we are French).

Unfortunately we were very cold the first night as we didn't find the welcome pack until we were leaving and we didn't find the blow heater until the second day. We eventually found the switch for the water heater but when we had a shower it was either very cold or scolding hot. Water came out from the bottom of the fridge and the TV aerial was broken so we had problems watching the television. By the third day the place was very warm and cosy and it was ideal for just walking out of the door and then going for long walks around the Water. We had a lovely time once we weren't so cold.

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry that the welcome pack was not located sooner. It is always placed next to the TV on top of the magazine basket in a large bright blue Perspex folder, often bulging, full of information. The information for the hot water switch is located in a 5” x 7” frame on the kitchen windowsill, directly in front of the sink. The information in the frame explains where the hot water switch is located, immediately to the right of the sink on the wall. With reference to the shower, the hot water is adjusted by moving the dial clockwise/anti-clockwise. The fridge had just been defrosted, so I assume the water was from that, but I will check on this. The angle of the TV aerial seem to have been moved slightly by the high winds, which seem to effect BBC2 only, other channels appeared to get a good signal. The aerial has been adjusted as it is in arms reach. It just needed turning half an inch. I am pleased that you had a lovely time and found the cottage to be cosy. We do live on site, and are always on call if there are any problems, unfortunately if guests do not notify us of any problems while they are in residence we cannot rectify the problem. If we had of been aware we could have dealt with the matters immediately. Thank for your feedback, and hope to see you again.
