If you are looking for a peaceful retreat, you can’t get much better than Buzzards! In an AONB, the setting is stunning.

If you are looking for a tranquil, relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle then this is the place for you. Coombe House Cottages (refs W1400 and W1497) are situated in a designated AONB in the heart of rural Devon, situated in a sheltered south facing valley off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling meadows and woodland. The abundance of wildlife is fabulous, and the lawns and lake to the front are very pretty in the summer with brightly flowering azaleas and rhododendrons. Each property has its own trestle table for al fresco dining in the sunshine. The cosy cottages have been converted from original stone farm barns and retain much original character. The delight of holidaying here is the quietness of the place. This little complex of properties is set in 33 acres of beautiful countryside and stands at the head of a broad valley. Across from Coombe House (ref W42221) is a delightful natural pond, thriving with wildlife including butterflies and dragonflies. The cottages are positioned to the rear of Coombe House and each offers very well appointed accommodation. The owner places fresh flowers in each property and guests can buy fresh herbs and vegetables from the owner (seasonal), as well as flowers, as and when available. The complex lies within 4 miles of Dartmoor National Park and within easy reach of some of the cleanest beaches in England (Bigbury and Blackpool Sands). The coastal paths offer superb walks and magnificent scenery. There are also many Green Lane walks, one of which runs through part of the estate. Several National Trust properties and gardens are nearby. Totnes and Dartmouth with their award-winning restaurants are a short distance away. The beautiful gardens feature a lake, a stream and small pond where wildlife abounds. As you stroll around the gardens you will probably encounter moorhens, pheasants or ducks, and if you take an evening walk in the woods you may catch a glimpse of a badger, fox or deer. Bird life is varied, look out for buzzards, sparrowhawks, woodpeckers and owls. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Both properties: Oil central heating and electricity included (£35per week 1st October-30th April). Bed linen and towels included. Cot. High chair. DVD. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Freezer. 33 acres of shared grounds with sitting-out area and furniture. Ample parking. No smoking. NB: 2 streams and a lake in the grounds.

    Great secluded location, however if you want some activity you are 13miles from the nearest seaside towns. very well equipped & clean. John, the owner is very welcoming and at hand should you need it or if you want to be left alone, that's fine too. We were a family consisting of 2 adults & 2 teenagers, plenty of room and very good value for money.

    I stayed at Buzzards View with my mum and adult daughter for a week holiday, it is perfect for a peaceful relaxing holiday, grounds and gardens are beautiful and our host was extremely helpful and polite. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Bit off the beaten track but perfect for exploring Devon.

    Nice property but needs a little work downstairs, updating bathroom and hot water supply, as discussed with owner, poor supply from shared immersion heater with neighbouring property, causing delay in morning showers. Bedding needs renewing, but excellent towels and sofa bed very good. Remote location as expected in lovely valley. We found access easier and more direct from A38 Avonwick turning following my new Satnav. We know the area very well but kept getting lost, and found this approach better, as more signs for Coombe house and lanes better standard avoiding very narrow rutted lane that was most likely cause of puncture on new car. No games or DVD's as at most properties we have stopped at previously

    Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry you had issues with the hot water at the start of your holiday. This was due to the immersion switch being turned off in error; we did rectify this as soon as you made us aware of the issue. I do not understand your comments about the bedding needing renewing, as it is supplied by "Berendsen" and is 100% Egyptian Cotton and replaced weekly. Regarding the access, the property is well signposted from both A38 exits. We do not provide games and DVDs as every guest has different tastes and pleasing everyone would be impossible.
