Description

The Yorkshire Dales and Lake District are easily accessible and Durham city is less than 5 miles away.

This stone-built, terraced cottage, formerly a colliery worker’s home, is a good holiday base for touring this area of natural beauty. Tudhoe sits between Spennymoor and Durham, an excellent location for cycling, walking and fishing. Durham city is 4.5 miles, with its Norman cathedral and castle, cobbled medieval streets, and shopping centre, and Durham University is only 3.5 miles away. Visit Beamish Open Air Museum and Barnard Castle (½ hour’s drive). Bishop Auckland Castle is close by, Shildon National Railway Museum is 8.5 miles. The Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are easily accessible. Bus stop to local attractions across the road. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 0.5 miles.

The property is situated only a short drive from Bishop Auckland which plays host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches spectacular from July-September 2016. Kynren - an epic tale of England - promises to be a historical extravaganza with a cast of over 1,000 people set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. There’ll be 14 action packed and movie-like performances of colossal and dazzling proportions. The shows will incorporate a full size lake with pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects making it a true spectacle in every sense of the word!

We had a great stay. The beds were really comfortable and the twin room spacious for the children. Nice to have basics in the cupboard for cooking. Very handy to have bus stop, right opposite the cottage, for visiting Durham etc. The Green Tree pub was a lovely place to go out for tea - the mains were very generous! We are glad we rang first to book, as on both nights (a Tuesday and a Thursday) they were having to turn others away!

I stayed here with my son for two days while visiting him at college in the area. Colepitt cottage was a great find and a real home from home. Well equipped but not cluttered. Parking was easy around the back of the house. A local supermarket was close by to stock up. We eat in the pub just up the road, the Black Horse, where the food was basic but good. Durham was an easy drive and we walked a few miles of the Weardale way on Saturday.
