Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Ideal for a rural escape, Cobble lies surrounded by countryside and lies amongst beautiful woodland.

Equidistant from both of Cornwall’s spectacular coastlines and nestling in delightful woodland, this converted barn is set in sunny, pleasantly landscaped gardens, with its own patio and views over the garden and fishpond from the dining area. Retaining all the character and charm of original structural features, including exposed beams and stone walls, it is furnished in keeping with its rustic simplicity. Peacefully positioned on a private drive beyond the owner’s home, and accessed by a narrow country lane, it enjoys fine views across the valley towards National Trust Lanhydrock House and its formal gardens. Lanhydrock House is 1¼ miles away and features several cycle trails, including a gentle trail for families throughout its grounds and into bluebell woods. There is also cycle hire, free parking and a café. Beaches of both the north and south coasts are about 15 miles away, some popular and offering fishing, sailing and surfing, others small and secluded. The coastal path is a continuous drama of cliff, sea and sky. There is excellent walking in the surrounding area and cycling in Cardinham Woods with dedicated, scenic cycle trails for those wanting more of a challenge, and an excellent café for refreshments. Restormel Castle and Lostwithiel, both 4 miles. Bodmin, 3 miles, has shops, cycle hire, swimming-pool, sports centre, inns, restaurants and golf. Bodmin Steam Railway can be heard in the distance within the valley. Riding locally. Wadebridge and Camel Trail cycle hire 7 miles. Padstow 12 miles, Fowey 10 miles and the Eden Project 8 miles. Shops 3 miles.

Felt cold and damp and water pouring through roof first night. Was given attention but from comments in book this an ongoing problem. TV went wrong - was replaced. Toiletsear cracked and had been mended with sticky tape! No excuse for this. Access was not easy due to cobbles, steps and set leaves.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. The leaking roof which had let a few drips in an excessively wet week has now been sealed successfully. Unfortunately, this took a little while to undertake as the roof needed time to dry out which has been impossible in a fortnight of intervals of downpours and showers. The heating in the cottage warms the cottage efficiently and is heated to an ambient temperature ready for guest's arrival. For special requirements e.g. room temperature of 25C plus on arrival for those later in life, I can be contacted to fulfil such requests. Unfortunately, the TV also gave trouble which was immediately replaced. The toilet seat is a particular shape and cracked on the guests arrival and had to be ordered so could not be replaced immediately, an issue which has now been rectified. The path to the cottage is composed of traditional granite setts in keeping with the barns. They are suitable for persons with minor mobility issues with care, but are not smooth however this has never been a concern or commented on before.

The cottage was nice but very dark and cold. It's in the shade and smells very musty. It was very dusty and obviously hadn't been cleaned properly for sometime going on what was at the back of the sofa. The TV remote was broken and the batteries were flat. When we went to open the windows they were locked and there was no key. It was difficult to heat up and keep warm. The light on the fire didn't work. It's a nice cottage overall and we had a good week out and about. Cottage could be better. We were disappointed.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I was disappointed to learn that the cottage did not come up to expectation. Since this week a different cleaner has been appointed and it has undergone a deep clean. The keys for the windows were in the cottage but I always ask the visitors to contact me if they experience any difficulty and I am here to help. Unfortunately on this occasion the customer did not do so and easily rectified problems could have been easily solved. As the customer says, it is a nice cottage and I want visitors to be as comfortable as possible and enjoy the peaceful and beautiful Fowey Valley environs. All the other issues have been resolved.

Not apparent from the photographs that this is the middle of three adjoining properties. It is comfortable and adequately equipped but had no obvious outdoor area. I was surprised that there didn't seem to be a smoke alarm as I managed to burn some toast. I think it would be advisable to install one as there is only one door to the property. Beautiful location.
