Description

This magnificent Georgian holiday home is the ideal base for a family and friends retreat, with something for everyone available.

Spacious Clifton Cottage is a large Georgian house, formerly the owners’ home, which boasts a large, walled garden mainly laid to lawn. It has been converted with much care to provide comfortable holiday accommodation suitable for larger groups. It boasts a large entrance hall, three reception rooms, and retains much original character with its beams, Aga and homely open fires. Detached, it is set in a village location with the market town of Ashbourne only 1½ miles away on the edge of the Peak District National Park. There are many shops to browse and good facilities including supermarkets and a number of restaurants. There are leisure centres at both Ashbourne and Uttoxeter for swimming, squash and other sports. A similar distance away, an 18-hole golf course proves popular with visitors (available weekdays only). From the cottage you can undertake country walks, cycle rides through country lanes and there is also a very good pub 100 yards away in the village which does good food. Highlights in the area include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Peak caves and caverns near Castleton, Alton Towers theme park (within 5 miles), Sudbury Museum of Childhood, Crich Tram Museum, Bakewell, Carsington Water, Matlock Bath including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham. Clifton cottage is a beautiful house but some of the bedrooms are very basic and do not offer value for money for each party attending.

We had a wonderful time. The house was great for our family needs. Maybe showers could do with a little updating as they were erratic - water changing from cool to very hot without warning. Kay was very helpful.

Warm, spacious and rambling this property was equipped beautifully for a multigenerational get together with dog. Quickly felt at home and local supermarket or high street shops 2 miles away. You could alternatively rely on The local Inn which is 100 meters away and offers all you need food & drink wise.

Had a fantastic few days away at Clifton Cottage for my Daughters 21st Birthday. So much space for everyone to spread out, was everything we wanted for our family get together and Kay who looked after the property could not have been more lovely. Was very well equipped, it had everything we needed. Pub just a minutes walk away. Will definitely stay there again.

Fabulous property, in a lovely location. It had a big private garden, lots of character, big rooms, open fires, the Aga in the kitchen was great feature, but appeared to lose heat quickly. Local pub with very good food. Good local dog walking. Close to many National trust properties, good walks, beautiful towns and villages, also Alton towers. The only real criticism was of some of the mattresses, the owners must take note, the impact it can have on the backs of people staying in the property, especially middle aged and older guests, could ruin the whole holiday.

A lovely old house but very tired around the edges. A welcome pack of essentials would have been very welcome as would sufficient towels, kitchen and toilet rolls. The kitchen utensils really do need looking at, they are worn and rusty.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. I note the comments and will replace the kitchen utensils. Toilet rolls are provided initially but as this is self- catering accommodation then I understand it is up to guests to provide replacement toilet rolls. A welcome pack is not provided and is not included in the description. There are towels provided for each guest so I am unsure why this is commented on.

A fabulous house for a large family gathering. There is enough downstairs, upstairs and outside space to ensure no one feels cramped. The house is well equipped and Kay who looks after the rentals ensured we had everything we needed. If you're looking for a modern house with all the bells and whistles then Clifton Cottage may not be for you however if you want a comfortable, spacious place, full of character for a lot of people with a pub a couple of minutes away then this is ideal!

We went as a large group and the house was big enough for all of us to find some space. The enclosed back garden had beautiful views and was a quiet relaxing space. The only thing I would change is the plumbing as the showers were poor and it took a long time to fill a bath.
