Description

Guests are free to roam the 13000-acre grounds which surround the holiday cottage, made up of woodland, moors and lochs.

This traditional stone cottage started life in the 1800s as three shepherds’ dwellings, and has been tastefully restored into one spacious cottage. It is situated by an old stone bridge over the Clachandubh Burn and has its own enclosed garden. This detached, single-storey cottage is located on Ederline Estate, a family-owned working hill farm, covering around 13000 acres of stunning, breathtaking scenery. The estate is made up of woodland, far reaching moors and 22 lochs, all with wild brown trout which guests are welcome to fish with a fly. On Loch Ederline, guests can fish for pike, perch and roach (all fishing is £10 per day). Wildlife in the area is legendary, with red and roe deer, pine martens, foxes and red squirrels often seen. There are also regular sightings of golden eagles and ospreys which nest on the estate. As a guest on the estate you are welcome to wander as far as you like and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is rich in history and archaeological sites with the main concentration in the Kilmartin Glen only a short distance away. On the estate itself are two ancient chapels and a castle to be explored. Activities include cycling, kayaking and rowing (bikes and boats for hire), and in season stalking can be arranged. The numerous forest trails and Crinan Canal tow paths are ideal for walking and cycling, and pony trekking is available locally. Short ferry crossings to Mull, Islay, Gigha and Arran are easily made, or the Kintyre Peninsula offers white sandy beaches and some of the best golf courses in Scotland. Shop and pub 4 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room with wooden floor. Kitchen. 3 bedrooms: 1 double (6ft zip and link, can be twin) with en-suite bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet, 2 twin. Shower room with toilet.

We had an amazing week there. It is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location. There were a few little niggles, mainly that there was only a couple of hours heating per day and, as this was controlled from the main house there was no way of adjusting it. Luckily we had remarkably good weather. We had to purchase black bin liners, multipurpose surface cleaner, toilet rolls and a hearth brush. There was very little information about things to do in the area. There was no washing machine or way/area for drying - thank goodness it was dry! Considering the cost of this cottage it all seemed a bit frugal and there was a long list of instructions and expectations - mainly about cleaning!

This cottage is placed in an excellent location to visit the surrounding areas. Everything that you need is in the cottage, it is very clean with all mod cons. The only thing that I'd recommend doing would be to update the sofas, there are three old squashed down/not very comfortable sofas with throws over to hide them, other than that everything was fine.
