Ideally located in the Wear Valley, an AONB, with Hamsterley Forest, 4 miles, having lovely walks, cycle trails, sporting and leisure activities. Durham City, 6 miles, has a historic cathedral and many boutiques and restaurants. The beautiful Durham Dales of Weardale and Teesdale with High Force, England’s highest waterfall are half an hour’s drive away. The magnificent Northumberland beaches and ancient Castles, the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales are easily reached for superb days out. The Metro Centre and Newcastle are an hour’s drive, and there are many bars, restaurants, art galleries and museums to while away the time. Centrally placed for touring, this delightful house with enclosed garden makes an excellent holiday base, looking out over the tranquil village green. Golf and horse riding nearby. Shops and restaurants 1 mile, pub 10 yards.

The property is situated only a short drive from Bishop Auckland which plays host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches spectacular from July-September 2016. Kynren - an epic tale of England - promises to be a historical extravaganza with a case of over 1,000 people set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. There’ll be 14 action packed and movie-like performances of colossal and dazzling proportions. The shows will incorporate a full size lake with pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects making it a true spectacle in every sense of the word!

    The house has the potential to be a great house but needs a good clean and a bit of tlc. It has lots of space and equipment but is let down by it's appearance. The pub next door proves to be noisy especially when events are held there. This causes the front garden to become a play area for any children attending

    This is a lovely property very spacious and suited our party with plenty of room, however aspects of this property need attention, items which we found needing attention had been mentioned by previous holiday makers. For us the property was in a very good central position for the places we wanted to visit. Owner please attend to the issues mentioned by us and also by others.

    Clean and comfortable, very well equipped. Ideal for our family holiday of nine adults and two dogs. Pleasant location and 'locals' made us most welcome.

    Lovely house in a nice quiet village, ideal location for Durham and Beamish museum. We made some suggestions to improve the facilities. We enjoyed our time there, for the 3 nights we had booked.

    Nice house, but lacked the kitchen necessities that you normally find in a holiday home. Salt, pepper etc. Disappointed that the shower in the en-suite master bedroom was not connected. Leaving 6 adults fighting over the main shower.

    Overall we were pleased with our holiday the location was perfect for us and there was plenty of room ,and clean,this was our second stay at Church View , however it was disappointing to find that maintenance on the house was lacking with a broken sofa, a front door that couldn't be opened , a broken internal door handle ,and electric socket was loose in the lounge,generally a coat of paint and attention to peeling woodwork ,and the cooking utensils were in poor condition, the gardens were in need of care and attention.

    Church view is situated nicely on the green with a very friendly pub next door. Its handy for visiting Durham ,Beamish and for us Diggerland. The property itself was large with plenty of room for 8 adults 2children and 2 dogs and had loads of parking. When we arrived the gate wouldn't even close let alone shut. Not safe for the children and dogs. My husband had to do D I Y before we even unpacked. The house would benefit from a good deep clean. The pillows wanted replacing in the en-suite bedroom also a headboard would have been good. The shower in the en-suite wasn't working, we had to share the one in the house bathroom. One of the beds was more like a low futon, maybe not suitable for older people. The mattresses in the twin room need replacing as a matter of urgency. The seating in the living room was low and deep, difficult to get up from for older people .The alternate seating was basket chairs -not ideal. It felt like the whole house was in need of a bit of TLC. Most of these points were mentioned already in the visitors book. Despite the above comments we had a great family break and would visit the area again.

The furnishings we have looked to accommodate for a variety of guests. The house regularly cleaned and the en-suite shower is part of the bath, which is an excellent bonus for guests. We have taken comments regarding mattresses seriously and do have new ones on order :) The house does undergo constant general cosmetic and maintenance work.
