We found the aroma from the plug in air freshener too overpowering and so turned it off. Later on we detected the smell of dog, hence the reason for the air freshener. We have nothing against animals, but the property should be cleaned to a higher standard when they are accepting dogs. A new mattress was needed.

Response on behalf of the owner: I attended the property prior to the booking for 3 days the carpets and furniture are cleaned regular, precautions are made to remove bad smells. We apologies for any inconvience caused. The mattress is of high quality which I'm afraid doesn’t suit everybody.

The cottage was very old fashioned and in need of some modernisation. The cottage was not very clean any high level ledges and lampshades and hard to get to places had a thick layer of dust. We decided we would not cook in the cottage as the glasses and plates were not particularly clean either and we had not gone away to do someone else’s washing up! There were also various opened food stuffs that were out of date in the fridge/cupboards. Kitchen floor was also very dirty, with what looked like Tea-bag ‘splats’. The details stated the property had an enclosed garden, this turned out to be about 3m by 3m of paving slabs with a big hole in the trellis so our dogs could get straight on to the road. Not enclosed at all. In the description, towels were included, however you only get one set of towels between the two of you and they look very well used. I have never rented a holiday cottage that expects people to share towels!! We stayed for 3 nights at a cost after discount of just under £300.00 (2 adults and 2 dogs) this was not value for money and you can do a lot better in a hotel. The fact we felt it was so unclean and we had to eat out increased the cost of our short holiday. This cottage could be brought up to standard with a few quality items like a new bed (I think the bed is not that old it’s just not a quality bed with very little support) and a revamped kitchen, and a good clean.

Response on behalf of the owner:- I am extremely disturbed by your complaint about the Town Cottage and can only apologise that you did not like it. Since 2003 the Town Cottage has been very popular for visitors to Llanidloes. The visitor's book shows that it is well received by Clients and Inspectors alike. In fact, recently the chief inspector for Tourism Wales complimented me on the comfortable quaintness of the cottage which was built around 1840. I have made a conscious effort, whilst modernising the property to maintain some original features and furnish it appropriately. I am sorry that my choice of decor and furnishings did not meet with your expectations. The house is cleaned thoroughly, between lets, by myself and my domestic help. Everything is cleaned thoroughly except I must confess we do not always manage the high level ledges and lampshades every week. However the property receives a ‘spring clean’ at least 3 times a year, subject to the lets. Again I apologise that you did not find our dishes and glasses up to standard, I will ask my cleaner to ensure in future that all dishes and glasses are double checked and I’m amazed that there was foodstuff left in the fridge. That is unforgivable and a great oversight on my part. I'm terribly sorry but I was unaware that the agent had described the small yard at the Town Cottage as an enclosed garden, I have asked them to change that immediately. However, I would add that the reason we allow dogs at this property is because of the very close facilities of the river and park walk. I hope this unfortunate experience will not deter you from booking through Cottages.com in the future. It is difficult to please everyone where beds are concerned, some like hard mattresses whilst others prefer a softer sleep. I can only reassure you that the mattress is inspected by the Visit Wales inspectors. Please accept my apologies again.
