The landlady did not have a dustbin (she claimed it had been taken away and would apply for a new one) and asked us to put our rubbish in the bin in the neighbouring public car park. I was warned by a council officer that this was fly tipping and that no application had been received from her. In Devon, where I live, premises like this are deemed to be commercial and private contractors have to be used to remove rubbish. I found that the DVD did not have any sound and so could not be used. The paint on the back door was desperately peeling, and the dining table looked as if it had been found on a scrap heap. We decided to buy a table cloth to cover the marks. The kitchen and bathroom were good and looked reasonably modern. I don't think the cottage was suitable for dogs.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Please accept my apologies; I am very sorry that you were disappointed with the Town Cottages when you visited early in July. I can advise that the new bin has been delivered and again can only apologise for your encounter with the local council officer. I have had the DVD player checked and can confirm that it is working with full volume so I don’t understand why you could not use it but again apologise. I realise this is no help to you but the back door has now been repainted. The dining table is early Victorian known as “painted furniture”. The cottage was built around 1840 and the table dates back to about 1880 with the original paint. When I was last inspected by the tourist board one of the comments I received was that the table was in keeping with the property because of its similar age. However, I do accept that it is not to everyone’s taste. The agency with who you booked the cottage has sanctioned the property as suitable for dogs because of the very close facilities of the river and park walk. I hope this unfortunate experience will not deter you from booking through Cottages 4 You in the future.

Living area masked by plug in smell. Furniture in need of updating. Could have had a tablecloth to hide the grubbiness of it. Kitchen was hit and miss with cutlery plates etc. One tea towel and two bathtowelswe were there for one week. We opened front door onto a very busy general free car park. Bathroom was fine lovely shower. The stairs in the house not suitable for disabled or elderly were small spiral.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments on my property, The Town Cottage at Llanidloes, as I always appreciate constructive feedback that will help improve the quality and comfort of my guests’ visits. I would just like to respond to your observations. With regard to the plug in air freshener, I appreciate that some people like them whilst some don’t which is why it is clearly visible so that guests can choose whether to have it on or off. The dining table dates back to the 1870s or 1880s and when I was last inspected by Visit Wales the inspector commented how nice it was to see a table in character with the property but again I understand people’s likes and dislikes differ so I take on board your comment and will ensure there is a table cloth available in future. The inspectors again suggested that I put plain white crockery in the cottage, which I have done, but perhaps I should remove some of the older, back up cups and saucers. I will review the cutlery situation and again regret that the set I have at present is not to your liking. You’re quite right, one tea towel and two bath towels are not enough for a couple for one week so I will ensure that guests have a greater choice in the future. In our description of the Town Cottage we explain that the property is situated in the middle of the market town centre, adjacent to a convenient, free car park, opposite the stunning old church and just a couple of hundred yards from a riverside walk and park. We also explain that the property is not suitable for the infirm or disabled. I hope you accept my apologies and comments in the sincere spirit it is offered.
