Nestling in the beautiful Bowcombe Valley, just 4 miles from the nearest south coast beach, are these two properties. Brummell Barn is one of the original outbuildings to Cheverton Farmhouse, converted to provide highly individual and spacious accommodation. Boasting a wealth of interesting and original features, the barn has a splendid galleried sitting-room with beamed, vaulted ceiling enjoying lovely views over the surrounding countryside from its south-facing window. West-facing windows overlook the farmyard. Set close to the owner’s home on their mixed sheep, beef and arable farm, Brummell Barn has its own enclosed terrace with garden furniture and barbecue and Wendy house. Cheverton Farm Cottage is attached to the owner’s 18th-century home, with beams throughout. It has a large garden, and patio with garden furniture and barbecue (note: entrance is from the side door, not shown in photograph). With access to 730 acres of meadow and arable land adjoining forest and downland walking trails, visitors also enjoy shared use of a trampoline, swings, climbing frame, slide, games room with table tennis and air hockey, fitness room and a separate room with full-size billiard/snooker table (for adults) and darts, as well as use of the family’s indoor heated swimming pool. With dogs, ducks, chickens, sheep and cattle to visit, children will enjoy watching the varied farming activities (lambing in April). A perfect base for a family holiday, offering all the peace and quiet of the countryside combined with bathing beaches and a mild sunny climate.Shorwell, with its thatched stone cottages and Jacobean houses is 1 mile, while all the island’s popular seaside resorts are easily reached by a circular coastal road. Sandown and Shanklin, on the east side, have fine sandy beaches and Ventnor, at the southern tip, with its Botanic gardens, is huddled between steep, wooded cliffs. The farmhouse is a registered mountain bike centre for the Isle of Wight, there is an approximately 3 mile bike trail from the farm. Para-gliding, riding and golf can also be arranged (at cost). Fantastic place. Superb farm and welcoming. Great great place for kids!! Our service second visit - would be many more but can't fit it in. Very pleased no WiFi in the cottage. We had a proper family holiday and loved the island. Cannot recommend enough.

Had an amazing time with friends, activities are well maintained and the indoor pool is to die for! Want to say thanks to the owners and their hospitality. No wifi. Which actually proved to be a treat as we had no connection to the outside world. Amazing part of the country, will definitely visit again!

We had a lovely holiday for our daughters first birthday. Sheila and Paddy were very accommodating even providing extra cooking ingredients we had left behind! The pool is fantastic although we would have loved it to be a couple of degrees warmer!

The cottage was cosy, warm and helped us have a lovely short break. It was in a lovely location with the owners Sheila and Paddy there to greet us and show us around. We had a 13 and 5 year old with us and with the amenities on the farm they were kept amused. They loved going to see the farm animals even counting the sheep. The cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed including a garden. Sheila and Paddy are friendly owners who make people very welcome we even came home with apples from their garden. Would love to visit in the spring when they have lambs and would recommend a visit if your children are about 4 years and above.

Lovely comfortable little cottage. The owners Sheila and Paddy are lovely and made us feel most welcome. They were very kind when we had a medical emergency during our stay offering for us to use their landline phone for calls etc. The games rooms were an added bonus but we sadly didn't get chance to make use of the heated indoor pool. In different circumstances we would certainly have had a lovely time at Cheverton. We would stay again and can recommend this quirky little cottage in a great location.

An ideal location for exploring the island, centrally located gives easy access to all resorts and Newport. The owners are very welcoming and the facilities on the farm are good with a nice swimming pool and there is a play area for the children. The accommodation is comfortable and met our needs. Our first visit to the IOW and we had a great week...!!

Wonderful weather. Lovely couple. Our grand daughter enjoyed the pool. The sitting room was very snug and rather uncomfortable. The kitchen was reasonably equipped, but had expected better. There is no ventilation other than the doorway in the kitchen.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Obviously we take the adverse comments to heart and am not sure where we fell short of equipment in the kitchen. Regarding the ventilation I’m sure you noticed the window but perhaps you didn’t see that one big and one small one opened. I agree that the sitting room is small and an awkward shape and only “cottage Suite” style furniture is possible to get up the stairs which doesn’t suit everyone. I hope you were happy with the comfort of the beds and bedrooms. Your week was just before the peak period but with all the facilities on the farm, convenient parking etc. I did feel disappointed by the 2/10 for value for money. However the input from guests is welcome to ensure we can continue to help provide a memorable holiday for them.

The cottage was our base for a week and it was in a good location for reaching most parts of the island by car. The owners were very kind and welcoming, and we particularly enjoyed the pool and games room. Our party was my husband, myself, our 15 year old daughter, our son, his fiancé and 8 month baby plus two dogs. With so many people, the accommodation did seem a little cramped, but it was adequate. We were warned shortly before arrival that headroom was limited - my son is well over 6 feet tall and did bang his head -but otherwise we were very comfortable and enjoyed ourselves very much, as did our dogs.

We booked to stay here for our first holiday to the Isle of Wight, unfortunately we were very disappointed when we arrived, the manager of the cottage was very polite however it didn't seem like they had much experience/ management of holiday rental with clients, it almost felt like they were not expecting us. Apart from that it is advertised that there is wifi, however there is no internet or wifi available, there wasn't a pay phone in case of emergency even. We were also let down by the layout of the cottage, having small children, it wasn't very child friendly as the kitchen is downstairs and living room up a bending staircase making it very difficult to cook and watch the children were safe, there also wasn't any locks on the windows in the children's room, dogs are not allowed upstairs, therefore must be kept in the kitchen ( very difficult at times having to shut the kitchen door whilst the children were upstairs in the living room) , having said that the good thing about the stay was the games room and pool, keeping us entertained as there was not much more to do on the island!!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Our aim is to do everything we can to give our guests a happy memorable holiday. These guests arrived a little early and the cottage wasn’t quite ready which I explained to them but 10 minutes later I showed them round the cottage, the grounds, swimming pool, garden etc. I asked the guest if she liked swimming and she said she would not be using the pool as she had a chest infection. A few days later she came to talk to me about her dogs and how she showed them at Crufts. As I am a dog lover we had a really nice chat and there was no mention of any dissatisfaction with the accommodation. Wifi is available in the farm office and the connection details are in the information folder in the cottage. As we live in a valley it is difficult to get a signal for a mobile phone in the cottage. As use of our own phone or the office phone is not available if we are out, we accept this could be a problem in an emergency and will install an emergency phone that is always available for guests to use. The layout of the cottage is exactly as advertised. There are locks on the window in the children’s room. The signs for dogs state that they are not allowed upstairs but this applies to bedrooms. As the cottage sitting room is on the first floor it is a little different to most and dogs would be welcome in the living room. This is the first guest who has suggested, “there is not much to do on the Island”. A more usual comment is “we must return because there are so many things we still want to do”!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cheverton Farm Cottage. Paddy & Sheila are both very nice people, and go out of their way to make you welcome. The facilities are brilliant, we were able to swim on the pool almost every day, we played Table tennis in the evenings, and enjoyed the large gardens. This is the first time we have visited Cheverton Farm, but it certainly will not be the last. Paddy even arranged for us to play golf at his club, Result!
