Description

Visit Lanchester from this property, a village steeped in history dating back to the 12th century, with some local amenities.

This charming, detached former Hemel, close to the owners’ home, lies just 1½ miles from the historic village of Lanchester and only 10 miles from Durham. Lanchester is steeped in history dating back to the 12th century and it has a large village green which sits in the middle of some charming properties, with 3 village inns and eateries to hand. Cyclists will be eager to explore the quiet country roads or take the Derwent Valley Railway Path east to the outskirts of Durham, or west to join the Waskerly Way and on to Weardale. A walk can be taken along these footpaths, the section just south of Lancaster skirting the river Browney being a particular highlight. Corbridge is a mere 15 miles away with super pubs, tea rooms and shops, then carry on to Hadrian’s Wall to visit the Roman forts or a little further to Hexham, with its beautiful abbey. Enjoy Durham with its river walks, fine cathedral, bijou wine bars, traditional pubs and plenty of retail therapy. Alnwick Castle where part of the Harry Potter films were made takes approximately 1 hour, where you can visit the enchanting water gardens and treehouse, and stroll along the cobbled streets. Drive a little further north and follow the Heritage Coastal Route to come across Seahouses and Bamburgh, and the enchanting Holy Island or Lindasfarne, making a great day trip. Come back and relax at this holiday cottage, admiring the views outside after a day’s exploring. Consett 3 miles. Children’s play area 1½ miles. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant ½ mile.

The property is situated only a short drive from Bishop Auckland which plays host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches spectacular from July-September 2016. Kynren - an epic tale of England - promises to be a historical extravaganza with a cast of over 1,000 people set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. There’ll be 14 action packed and movie-like performances of colossal and dazzling proportions. The shows will incorporate a full size lake with pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects making it a true spectacle in every sense of the word!

Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. First floor: Galleried area with double bed and Velux. Shower room with toilet.

Biomass central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Electric hob. Combi microwave/oven/grill. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Large decked area and furniture. Parking (2 cars). No smoking.

Massive thanks to Simon and Anja who made my stay at the cottage feel like a home from home. The cottage delivers on the old saying that the best things come in small packages, I would recommend it to anyone either looking for a base whilst working in the area or as a break just to get away from it all......perfect.

Lovely, comfortable cottage in a very quiet location. Appreciated being surrounded by farmland with views of the animals and wildlife. Landlord and landlady very helpful and friendly.

This is a perfect places to stay and use as a base. The owners are delightful and take a great pride in looking after their guests. The bottle of wine and chocolates were a wonderful surprise. It was lovely that we were able to take our dog with use as it was his holiday as much as ours. There are plenty of walks and it is close to the many cycling tracks. The is ideal for walkers and cyclist. It was a top quality cottage and nothing was skimped on. Thank you so much!

An excellent place to stay, really modern, well presented and smart and in very pleasant surroundings but there are a few minor things that could be easily addressed, particularly for those that stay there while working rather than on holiday: 1. Kitchen equipment needs a few basic additions including a colander, sieve, decent grater and a couple of decent extra kitchen knives (plus sharpener); 2. There should be at least one rack to dry clothes on. There were none during my stay. 3. The bed is very uncomfortable and the duvet inadequate for anything but mid summer 4. A fenced area so that those who bring dogs can let them outside unsupervised would be useful, especially since the owners allow people to bring dogs.
