Chapel Cottage I'm afraid, was a disappointment. My family and I are in the property business so I would like to give the owners, who are themselves lovely, a semi-professional well meant review: MUST DO's: 1) No mirror with a decent light to shave or put make up on with. 2) The 3 steps down to the kitchen are all different heights, one being a wapping 32 cm, from all safely aspects (as well as older occupants health aspects), this is totally unacceptable. 3) No working bulb in the cooker hood. 4) Dishwasher door does not open as the kick board prevents the door from being horizontal. 5) The emersion heater is timed for 2 am and is incredibly noisy. Not even earplugs can muffle the noise. 6) Water usage next door causes noise in the cottage (piping?). SHOULD DO's: 1) Heat up the cottage in the winter before guests arrive if it has been unlet, as it takes nearly two days to warm up. 2) The front door lock does not line up perfectly so impossible for small hands to get it to lock. 3) The sofa could do with cushions as it's not exactly comfy. 4) The wifi is intermittent and sometimes goes off for a whole day. 5) The touch up paint in the main bedroom doesn't match and stands out quite a bit. NICE TO HAVE's: 1) A curtain over the front window, swept to the right. 2) One or two washing machine tablets in a clean jam jar. 3) Typed out instructions, not written as some are difficult to read. 4) A pint of milk for the first day/evening. 5) Replace mirror over fireplace with a Lakeland scene. The mirror makes the room less homely. 6) Fitted base sheet on the bed mattress. The plain one wanders around a lot. 7) Provide more than one toilet roll for the week. I'm sorry this is quite a severe report, however, we are seasoned holiday-cottagers and all of the above is normally provided. I feel also that I should mention the over-all "heath-robinson" feel of the place. Some may feel this is quirky and quaint but I'm afraid I don't. For example, a sawn off broom handle for a loo flush and an unfinished stair case rail. If you are aiming for the "quirky" market then you should advertise it as so, but I think you'd be restricting your potential market.

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were very shocked and upset to receive this review. A lot of the issues could have been sorted just by a knock to the door. We have been welcoming guests for 20 years and most people love the cottage and return year after year. We encourage visitors to let us know if there is anything at all we can help them with, as we want everyone to enjoy their stay. As can be seen my latest review is a 10 out of 10. There is a lovely big mirror in the bathroom with shaver point. The cottage details state there are slate stairs which are unsuitable to young or infirm (400 year old cottage). The cooker hood bulb must have just gone, we would have happily replaced if we had been asked. The dishwasher opens perfectly. No one has ever commented otherwise. The immersion can be turned off and switched on anytime. The heating is permanently on in the cottage and never gets switched off. The front door is fine, no comments otherwise. New leather sofas were purchased last year. The Wi-Fi is like any other place in The Lakes, intermittent. The cottage has been recently painted and has fully lined curtains in lounge. There are usually washing machine tablets, guests only need ask we live next door. The comfort of our guests is of paramount importance to us and you will receive a wonderful welcome in a cosy cottage in a beautiful place.
