Overlooking vineyards in a little village near Lussac, this pretty, semi-detached, white house, set to the rear of a wine château, has a private swimming pool in an enclosed garden. Simple but practical, it offers a cosy interior, full of charm, furnished with antiques, with a modern kitchen and living room opening on to a terrace. There are lovely walks all around, many good value restaurants, and the famous village of St. Emilion is only five minutes’ drive, as are Pomerol and Lussac. The area offers plenty of opportunity for wine tasting, and the excellent market at Libourne sells duck pâté, honey and shellfish. The city of Bordeaux, Arcachon and the Atlantic Beaches all make wonderful days out, and the motorway to the Dordogne is only five minutes away.

We enjoyed our holiday. The chateau is in a nice location, quite isolated but we knew that, however there is a local shop within walking distance and the village is a short car/bike ride away. Bordeaux is 40min drive and easy to get to by train from coutras. Coutras has a large well stocked supermarket. St Emilion is worth a trip and is 90mins by bike with some hills in the way. The chateau over looks vineyards and is quite quiet but with a busy road within 100m. The low flying small planes were not a problem for us, but may irritate some customers. The pool is nice but unheated, and there is enough outside furniture. The chateaux is well equipped with dolce gusto and filter coffee machines and all the equipment you would need. We ate outside under the ash tree for most meals. If you have transport and like quiet - this chateaux is worth considering - my only advice to the owners is that is is starting to look tired. The pool side paving slabs need attention. we had a bathroom leak which was fixed quickly, but looked as if it had happened before. It would have been helpful to know the owners expectations if we didn't talk up the 50euro cleaning charge. It took us 3 hours to clean the place.

If having nothing in the area other than grape vines; this is for you. A car is essential and finding a café anywhere was a real problem. Having a drink snack in the afternoon impossible. The saving grace, Lidl was a short drive away. We have both been retired for some time (born 1947) and this area is far to quiet for us. Even my son and his partner would not return. (Age 39 and 30).
