A pet friendly property ideal for couples and is part of the historic buildings of Cerne Abbey, formed as a Benedictine House in 987 AD.

This unique and enchanting property is part of the historic buildings of Cerne Abbey, formed as Benedictine House in 987 AD, overlooking the abbey courtyard with large gardens nearby. The abbey itself is privately owned, and guests can enjoy the grounds and wander freely. The property is in the pretty village of Cerne Abbas, famed for its dominating chalk carving of the Cerne Giant - thought to be carved in the hillside some 1500 years ago. Tucked away within the beauty of the Dorset Hills, miles of lovely walks can be enjoyed, including the village trail. Puddletown, Tolpuddle and Thomas Hardy’s picturesque Piddle Valley are within easy reach. Travelling further afield are miles of sandy beaches and some of Dorset’s Jurassic coastline. Shop and three pubs serving excellent food, 100 yards.

Absolutely wonderful. An oasis of calm and quiet in beautiful Dorset. The cottage was cosy and well equipped, and in the most beautifully maintained grounds. We were made very welcome, and we loved the beautiful gardens, village pubs and varied walking.

We had a great weekend break in this lovely cottage. The setting is very atmospheric and pubs serving great food are only a few minutes away. Would highly recommend.

Very well situated in lovely surroundings. Very welcoming and helpful owners. It was very frosty and the wood burner made it all very cosy.

Some people may think it mad to spend a week in Britain at the end of November, but even in spite of the downpour from storm Angus we had a wonderful week. The setting, in the Abbey, is fantastic, and so close to village amenities, yet in the middle of the Dorset countryside. The owners were really helpful, and the cottage was cosy, warm and had everything we needed. Ideal too for the dog.

Could not fault anything about Cerne Abbey Cottage! Perfect for two - the cottage was cosy and quaint, the owners were adorable but unobtrusive. The grounds were magnificent. All just a short walk from three lovely pubs and and general stores. Great dog-walking from the property. Spoilt for choice for trips out in the area. Can't wait to return.

Lovely, relaxing break in Cerne Abbey Cottage. Very peaceful setting, with beautiful views over the Abbey gardens. Wildlife lovers will enjoy watching hares, rabbits, bats and many different birds from the cottage windows. Comfortable bed, huge bath and cosy log burner all helped to make the cottage a home from home. There are 3 local pubs just a five minute walk into the village, all serving good food. Also, there is a well stocked village shop just around the corner. The owners provided a warm welcome upon our arrival, and offered information about local amenities in the area. I would highly recommend this cottage and look forward to making a return visit before too long.

The cottage was very comfortable although one or two improvements would have given a higher rating. There were no spare refuse sacks provided nor a saucepan scourer which is essential to properly clean equipment. The hot water is also dangerously hot. Theses are only minor points, the only reason we wouldn't stay again is because we have had a good tour round the area so would go elsewhere.

The cottage is small, but set in a historic, unspoilt setting in peaceful rural situation. Cottage very well equipped. Owners welcoming and charming. Only downside was that the cottage did not have a shower - only a large bath which was very wasteful of water.
